Fibromyalgia and heat and cold intolerance

Hello I have posted here before. I am 71 female with widespread Osteoarthritis and other health problems and I have recently been diagnosed with mild fibromyalgia as well. I have suffered from heat intolerance for some years also sometimes cold intolerance but not that often. The heat problem is really getting me down bad enough dealing with pain. I find that once the temperature rises above 24 or so my hair and scalp becomes soaked when going outside in the warm weather. It can also happen in a hot kitchen when cooking. I do also have hypothyroidism and thought that his might be the cause. I usually stay in doors in the hot weather but due to go to a birthday party Sunday afternoon dreading it as it is going to be hot. No one seems to understand what it's like and think I am just whinging about lovely summer weather. I read the other day it can be caused by fibromyalgia. anyone know if this is correct. Does any one have this problem. Thanks for reading this.

Hi there. I have exactly the same thing happen to me and it is awful. I initially thought I was going through menopause but it's my fibro to blame. I've never had a problem with sweat in my life, I didnt even sweat giving birth 4 times but it's a constant battle now. I have heard sage tablets can be helpful but they only work for a few people. I really feel for you as it can make you feel so uncomfortable especially in social situations.

Thank you gayle06571 for your reply. I have has this since the menopause and hot flushes and this was in my early 50s. I put it down to that as I remember quite well that when one of our daughters got married in 1996 it was a warm July day and I was fine no wet hair or anything I would have been coming up 49 then. What different story in July 2003 when her sister got married. I could not get my hair to dry and ended up putting my big hat on with damp hair underneath. Luckily the driver of the car which took me put the air conditioning on drove the long way round to the church. When I look at the photo it looks fine just my fringe showing but I think my hair underneath is wet. This is why I though is must be left over from menopause as the dates fit. I have never really liked hot weather but never had this problem until then. Funnily enough it is only the head and scalp affected. I feel for you too. Do you find people don't understand why you are not keen on hot weather. I always say I love to see the sun but it is the heat that is a killer. We are going to a birthday party and other celebrations at my daughters tomorrow. They will all sit in the garden but I will probably have to stay indoors or at least keep coming in and out. Not sure where you are but we are in the North of England so not as hot as when we were in London which is where I was born. Friends of mine have told me it was terrible during the recent heat wave with temperatures mid to high 30s may me feel bacd for complaining about 26/7c.I have asked gps but they don't seem to know what to do about it so just usually stay indoors if it is hot. I might ask my gp to check my thyroid levels again in case medication needs changing. I hope you can find something to help. I certainly will let you know if I find anything out about this problem. Have a good weekend.

I am in the north east and even this weather is just a pain for me. I find the warmer weather stops so many flare ups but the sweating is so annoying. I did consider it could be my meds at one point but I've had them changed and it's made no difference at all. Please keep me upto date on how you get on as I will with you
