Fibromyalgia and hunger

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have been diagnosed with fribromyalgia and although my pain is under control I get other symptoms.  For example I can be fine happy lively energetic empowered and lose weight.  Then from out of the blue I am down, hungry cold tired and bloated.  My pains bother me more but not as much while I am on duoloxetine.

Does anyone else feel like this?

Hi Carol, I have only just been diagnosed and for 4 months its all been a mystery. I have been off work as so tired and pain so bad - like you say there a little bit of variation, may be a case of getting the right of which I haven't a measure on that yet. Have been trying to lose weight people have suggested cutting out Sugar and Gluten. Originally I was diagnosed with Reactive Arthritis and told not to over use muscles due to tendonitis but all that has now had to change

Hi Clare, I had terrible problems with my weight. I literally put 10lbs on in a month in January. I don't believe in cutting out food groups but to eat healthily. I have also added maca, flax seed and hemp to my diet as a powder in smoothies, shelled hemp, seeds and oil and I am now losing weight. A diet balanced with omegas 3,6 and 9 also prevents inflammation, otherwise if the omegas are out of balance this can cause inflammation.

Hi When I have bad days it seems that gluten upsets my tummy thus irritating my bowel.  I wasn't sure if it was the meds making me put on weight or the fribro.  I am wondering if accupuncture might help.

Thanks Clare for the advice, how does that work then is it more fibre. I am not sure if the meds have made me put on weight, but I am desperate so might try your method.

Hi Caroline, I have been gaining weight for 6 months or more, then joined a gym in December and went all of 5 times over Xmas then took ill! I got in touch with a personal trainer who shared a book with me - I Quit Sugar by Sarah Wilson. I use this as a guide now. I use Flax too in my smoothies 😃...have lost a little weight but not gained anymore whilst not been at work. Like you say I try to eat as healthy as I can now...use Cinnamon alot...that's apparently good for you...😃 x

Hi Carol, A personal trainer told me to invest in a book call I quit sugar by Sarah Wilson...you would find on Amazon from £4- £5. I have lost weight but certainly not gained anymore whilst being so inactive for 4months. Consultant told me no gym just walking ads he thought I had tendonitis!! Thank goodness I had already been working on my diet. My worry was I was that unhealthy I was so tired all the time 😃...wasn't really the reason. X

Hi Carol, just read about your gluten problem....She also advised to cut that out too. I now use gluten free flour, coconut flour ir Almond flour. Worth a try, you don't need as much, albeit it is a little more expensive. Also in the book mentioned previously. x

    Hi Carol

I have had pains for over 20 years but only got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Aug 2014.  At the early stages of my pains I was put on various anti-inflammatory tablets and this caused me feeling low and gained so much weight.  My diet has always seemed to be balanced but I am constantly tired.Over the years I have tried various different treatments from acupuncture to reflexology to seeing a chiropractor to seeing homopatic specialist, chinese herbal remedies.....and so on. I have been told to cut out different types of food by different specialist but I have always come back to eating a sensible balanced diet.  To this day, although I have lost some weight and could do with losing one stone I am finding it difficult to do this lately as the pains take over and the only form of exercise I do is my walk to and from work daily with is about 35mins each way. I have learnt not to stress over it and I just take a day at a time and hope that one day I will have lost my weight, have a boost of energy and get a good night sleep.

Staying calm and positive is the road to keeping control of the pains and not allowing the pains to control me.

Hiya Carol, we all have soo many differing symptoms, I've had it for about 23 years and I still get symptoms I have never had before, I bought an awesome book all about Fibro...my specialist recommended it to me, when I first encountered 'brain fog'.....googling info from a reputable site is  excellent too...it's really just up to us sufferers to find out as much as we possibly can and get informed .....be blessed, have a lovely day..:-) xxx

Sarah Wilson's book on I Quit Sugar is amazing.,this led me to eating PALEO  lifestyle...it's just amazing..please google it...sugar, processed food and many other things we put in our bodies are just sooo toxic...especially for aoutoimmune issues...there is just sooo much you can eat too, things we were always told never to eat because it was bad or us ......O' the powers that be have done a terrible thing worldwide to us....it's being recognised niw world wide..finally...even our local Orthopaedic Surgeon is on this band wagon and has got the food in the local hospital and it's canteen changed..sooo much scientific research about it now..which is really great....have a lovely day..be blessed.:-) xxx

    Hi Carol

I know exactly where you are coming from.  Unfortunately it seems that we never know from one day to the next how we are going to feel. I have given up planning anything in any great detail. It is a case of going with the flow. Just when you think things are going well something completely new puts in an appearance -   Fibro - the condition that just keeps giving!

I too have purchased a couple of books from Amazon but haven't got round to finishing them yet. Fairly early days for me as I have not been diagnosed long but have suffered for over 20 years.  I have already posted about alternative therapies and am trying the hypnotherapy route to help with pain, insomnia and weight.  Will post again once I have any news one way or the other.  At least we have this site where we can get advice and understanding.

    Take care.
