I think many with FM also have osteo arthritis.

My feet have gotten worse as I've aged and I'm 76, and even worse since hip replacement mess, body alignment off and hence more pressure and tension on knee and foot joints...

I thought FM is mostly nerve pain....

Thank  you for your reply as I am not sure if my ankles are arthritic now on top of fibromyalgia and hip problems - they say things go downhill at seventy and I am seventy in December !!

I have had fibro for quite a long time. I have a very serious case (my doctor says that on a scale of 1-10 that on a good day I run at 8-9 bad day is 11-12). I to have pain in ALL my joints ranging from the tiny joints on my fingers to my toes. My doctors say that this is due to the fibro. In there opinions the fibro attacks not just the soft tissue and nerves but also joints. I have osteo arthrits in my right knee but the rest of my joints show no arthritis yet I have pain ranging from about a 3-9 on the pain scale depending on the day. Hope this helps.

What do you folks take for the Fibro Stuff?

I address thyroid, adrenals, hormones and take a lot of supps...

No drugs for Fibro except Iburprofen 2 times per day and Herbal Pain RX in between.

Digestive Enzymes, Probiotics, DGL for stomach protection.

MSM powder to help reduce pain...been using this for years.

Do any of your doctors suggest any of the above? I doubt it...

I see no MD for Fibro, I'm my own doc and it works....yes, I have chronic pain but it's manageable....it's been worse thinking years back so again we MUST address so many issues in our body.

Magnesium and Vit D are critical.

I often feel like I was run over by a mack truck when I wake up, but I sleep good 8-10 hrs as I've worked out a good sleep formula for me.

So it takes OUR WORK and to depend on MD's.....forget it...... J

Grape Seed Ex works for me with any ankle fluid build up. I've been taking Grape Seed Ex for 19 yrs and when I've had 2 bouts of fluid; one from a BP med and the other from hip replacement mess, I upped my dosing and the fluid was gone.

Do your research, google: Grape Seed Extract and Edema.

I have HUGE Sympathy with all FM suffers.  After a serious car accident which sadly I was under diagnosed.  Head Trauma, Compression Spinal fractures and compression of other spinal areas.. which other than having my head stapled I was left to deal with everything my own with no medical intervention/s other than painkillers which truly did nothing.  I had been later notified of the compression fractures and that was it.. till a few years later after such huge struggles I was diagnosed with HT issues.  But nothing was done about it.  Just like nothing had ever been done to assist me with all my pain issues, fatigue, etc etc...  It is our ACC system here that works against folk.  When the ACC think they can see errors in reporting or no reporting they then use all that and begin manipulating a persons paperwork and problems so they don't have to payout for treatments etc....  I am one that got knocked off with no attention to my reported issues..  ACC continue to deny me.  So as a result of my untreated spinal and head issues, I have been putting up with 24/7 pain/agony/aching, and everything that comes with it... 'Swelling'.. you bet!!   'Regid painful muscles and tendons', you bet!!..   Flare ups are a bane of my life!  They are the worst things out.  It's rough enough putting up with pain, aching 24/7, BUT the Flare ups are really soul destroying.  Bringing the immune system down, 'Swelling' !!  Yes you bet.  Blood tests haven't shown any inflammation, but then I wasn't actually puffed up swollen when I had that test, I was just in my normal pain level.

I have limited Rom, and now very limited in walking speed, and how far.  If I walk up inclines it's every 3 - 4 steps that I have to stop, spread legs, turn and lunge type thing to relax my lower back where the original compression problems are.  It has become very mechanical and always sore.  Aggrevating it further and my feet, ankles and legs swell, my bowel and bladder won't work properly..   And terrible painful back and stomach cramping...  Over use my arms, hands, lifting my arms up, holding them out strains my compressed neck and BAM!  Repetitive use of arms sets off a bad flare also and my muscles/tendons etc become ridged and so painful.  Like my muscles and tendon are shortening and ripping off my bones...  Perifferal pain, aching and 'swelling' of arms, hands, fingers... to the point I lose the messages from the brain to fingers to be able to move them.

I don't think I mentioned the severe 'Whiplashing' of the neck, several times at huge speed and GF's hitting the equivalent of brick wall/s...   The whole spine is stressed and whiplashed  and it turns into a figure 8 at times before impacting, and/or Whiplashing..

I knew of a young chap with a severely swollen arm/hand and fingers.  Due to wrapping himself round a lampost on his motorbike.  The helmeted head GF'd forward, the lampost in the shoulder, the arm wrapping round one way and his head round the other side...   It wrenched and overstretched the nerves.. triggers off major swelling in his arm, hand and fingers and IS extremely painful for him.

Again another case of our medical system ignoring issues, mainly because they don't have all the answers (which is a true medical fact) and also because they won't front up and at least try helping and looking at these types of issues.  Even the Head Trauma issue for this guy was completely 'ignored'...

So there are a lot of folk out there with 'a load of issues' same or similar when it comes to pain, swelling.  The Medical professions, some, are only now beginning to recognise FM as a Real medical problem.  They do not have all the answers, and some doctors don't believe folk have it most of the time, and they don't have 'any actual tests' to prove what is or how to treat Fibromyalgia!...  However they are working on a list or lists of what could be considered one of the validating points....

I got a sprained ankle on my left side 2 years ago. It healed and I didn't have any issues except maybe occasional soreness every once in a while. Well, lately... Maybe over the past 7 months, this pain in my left ankle is getting worse and worse to the point that I have swelling and pain EVERY DAY! It's awful!

I'm not sure that this is from fibro but I am getting to the point where I believe it is... What do you guys think?
