Fibula fracture

Fibula fracture requiring plate and screws... I had surgery over a year ago. My ankle still swells and is quite painful. My calve also swells and I have knee pain. Unfortunately I do not qualify for assistance and cant afford insurance. I do my stretches and am as active as possible but I am limited. I last if lucky approximately 2 hrs before I must sit. I can not run, tiptoe or turn my ankle to a certain extent... At night is the worst. Anyone have the same physical issues? If so what is your relief?

    Hi Stacey

Sorry for the predicament your facing, much like mine, it’s been since feb17 when I broke my tibia and fibula, it’s been life changing, I’m still off work and my ankle remains broken, I’m waiting on Exogen therapy which hopefully will enhance the healing. But for now I elevate as much as I can, if not, then the ankle swelling gets to a point that I then require pain killers which do I try and avoid, ice has also been an option when the pain exceeded more than I desired to bear. I came to the realisation a few months ago that when I have a bad couple of weeks and therefore avoid Physio and mobility and exercises classes then my hip to knee to ankle seizes up and I get the pains back in my knee, back and waist. So it’s important to remain active as much as you can bear, I try and do 30 miles per week on the exercise bike, this keeps my knee pain at bay as well as keeping me fit, Apart from sleeping I elevate 3-4 hours per day, when I’m reading or watching Tv and when working on my lap top. As you know what  as happen to you and me and countless other is a life changing event that we must live with and I’ve been grateful to this  forum reading other people’s solutions and advices, I hope you find the help and healing you deserve.

This is all quite scary. I'm only 6 weeks post op for a broken fibula and dislocated tibia and I'm thinking in a couple of weeks I'll be back to normal! I have a 10 inch plate and pins holding my ankle together. To hear so many people still suffering months down the line is shocking!
