Fibula fracture but pain around ankle

Ok, so I broke my fibula approximately 3 inches above my ankle Apr 9, surgery Apr 11. Dr. had to insert a plate several small screws and a long one to hold both fibula and tibia for 12 weeks, of course I was non weight bearing during that time. Now here’s the thing, this past July 11th I had the long screw removed and my Dr. said it was time to start putting weight on my leg. It’s been a week since the surgery and I understand there’d be some pain on the OUTSIDE part of my leg because that’s where the fracture occurred but that wasn’t the case. I developed some sharp pain around the INSIDE part of ankle...I take a couple of ibuprofens to help with this pain, it helps but some pain is still there, then after that wears off the pain comes back. I wear very cushioned sneakers to help too. Is it normal to develop pain in other parts of your leg? Help please

So that long screw across both bones is called a syndesmotic screw. It’s used to immobilize the ankle and fibula to let a specific connective tissue to heal that you had apparently torn. It can be normal for pain to radiate from the surgical site. Also, all your tendons and ligaments in your ankle are stiff from being immobilized. Specifically there is something called the deltoid ligament that connects your tibia to your talus on the inside of your ankle. I’m guessing this pain is simply your ankle stretching back out and regaining its range of motion. Weight bear as tolerated, just don’t push it. I’d guess this pain will start to subside the more the ankle is used. Obviously if it doesn’t, talk to the orthopedic surgeon about it. I’m assuming you already have a follow up appointment scheduled, that’s just how they do things.
