FINAL DRESSING REMOVED YESTERDAY, DISSOLVABLE STICHES. OK TO SHOWER NORMALLY?

Posted , 10 users are following.

Hi, just joined!   I had a THR 8 days ago and doing really well, doing exercise programme etc but I hardly sleep and I don’t nap either. Having said that, I was an insomniac before the op so it’s not concerning me really!  I do Mindfulness and have discovered Stoic Philosophy which I find amazing.  My query is ~ I removed the final dressing yesterday and the wound looks good (dissolvable stitches) do I now shower as normal ? There’s still tape along the wound, does that just eventually drop off ?   Thx

Had my dressing off yesterday at 14 days. Also dissolvable stitches. I was told it was okay to shower from day 3 but not to soak the wound, so no swimming or going in a bath. I had to sit down to shower to begin with but able to stand from about 10 days. It feels so good to get clean. The only difficulty is I have to get help to remove and put on the surgical stockings.

Yes, these stockings are not easy and you couldn’t do it on your own, no way.  I’m not used to asking people to do things for me but I’m quite enjoying it!  Keep on the right path biggrin

      Melody/Frances,

Go onto Amazon and buy the "sock helper".  It's 10 bucks U.S. and pulls them on for you .  No more calling in the hubby or a friends put the sock on your foot for you!  It's amazing.  Really works.  I use it every day and I didn't even have Posterior surgery that limits how far down I can bend right  now.  But it is the best $10 I've spend on anything other than the satchel for my walker that carries my "stuff" and my Diet Cokes (or bloody Mary's on Saturdays) don't splash!

What is Stoic Philosophy, Frances? I’m a great believer in the power of the mind to help the healing process and use Guided Imagery but have never heard of this.

I’ve sent the link Melody but it’s waiting to be ‘moderated’ no doubt because I put in a weblink.

Put in a search for Daily Stoic and Modern Stoicism and you’ll find info there x
