Finally beat thye Zopiclone habbit

Posted , 8 users are following.

After taking 7.5mg of Zopiclone every night for the last eight years i have finally quit, I started my reduction course on new years eve, taking half my dose 3.75mg for the next month, at the begining of feb i cut it by half again for a month and then on the 1st of march I stopped it altogether so i have been one week now clear of this drug. To say i am very pleased with myself is a bit of an understatement, i am not going to say it was plain sailing either, it wasn't, and i am still feeling the withdrawel symptoms every day when i wake up but each day is getting easier and i feel a lot better for having stopped. I gave a lot of thought to quitting and planned my withdrawell in a methodical way, no point in rushing it i thought and failing cos' i have tried to do it too quickly, i knew failing would be tough on my mental state and would set me back.....didn't want to risk that. And to think a couple of months ago i came on this forum cos i was thinking of increasing my dose for the usuall reasons...ie not sleeping felling very rough on awaking and other side effects, and then reading posts by people feeling very similar to how  i was and posts by people who had quit, inspired me to take the bull by the horns so to speak and do something positive. i so want to thank you guys'n' gals on this forum who have helped me with posts and private messages ( julie) I  made this post to help inspire others watching who are in the same place i was just before christmas, YOU CAN DO IT  good luck and thanks again Robin

    Hi Robin

The other day I was wondering how you were doing ! And today I got your wonderful news ! Congrats I'm so proud of you ! You have every reason to be proud of yourself and it is so liberating not being dependent on a drug . Occasionaly I still get a little nervous in certain situations that I will not sleep well so I will take some nyquill but even with that I have found that the sleepiness last well into the morning which I do not like. So from now on I have to settle on deep breathing & relaxing techniques to fall asleep , no more meds for this purpose.

So thanks again for updating us and keep it up girl .

Thankyuo colette for your post and the nice words, so glad you are coping without the zopiclone , you are one of the very helpfull people on thid forum that I was refering to so thankyou for your support, don't think I would have done it if I had not joined this site, it seemed like such a steep hill to climb and you all helped me get motivated. As Neil Young wrote in one of his songs ' better down the road without that load'. I think it is a fitting epitah. Thanks again Robin

Hi malcom, Thanks....Sorry its not happening for you, you got the classic symptoms taking zopiclone to get off to sleep in the first place and then waking up during the night requiring another dose to sleep again, very frustrating......its weird how these tablets can actually cause insomnia but they do. I am sleepig better now than I have in years and I have been off them for just two weeks, ok it was difficult to begin with but I kept thinking of the posts by members who had quit and that they too had had to endure the 'withdrawel' stage before coming through it, and that is what helped me. I hope you can do the same. Thankyou for your post and good luck........

Thank you for your inspiring post. I'm about to embark on my own dosage reduction after trying several times before and failing. I've been on this for 8 years as well. You have given me hope.

Wishing you success this time round.

I was on zopiclone for 7 years. It can be done and achieved, and it's worth it. Feel the fear but do it anyway! Best wishes.

Thanks for your post maureen, ok it won't be easy but it was not as hard zs I thought it was gonna be so my advice would be not to rush it get sed to each reduction before cutting down again and it should be bearable, I took two months cutting back. I want to say also that I am now getting a better quality of sleep than I have in years and this was my goal so think about that when its rough it will help motivate you . Good luck to you and keep us all informed.......
