Finally come to term with my diagnosis.

Okay, so after going through a emotional roller-coaster and hating the person who I know, knew they had genital herpes when they infected me I am finally accepting what it is and I can't change it. Just wanting to know how people have found dating and telling new partners about their diagnosis, is sex life and love life really over?

Nothing really changes apart form disclosure and avoiding sex during outbreaks/or feelings of an outbreak. Doesn't need to be completely avoided as there is still other ways to have fun that doesn't include penetrative sex.

You can still do both casual and long term sex. If it's casual best be upfront from the start give them the information. If you feel like you want something more serious I wouldn't be telling the person straight away until you think things are going in a way that you like. No one has to know your business unless you what them too! It's also a good way to see if people want you for you or they just want sex!

Just to add- even if you're aiming for something more serious with someone, you SHOULD tell them about your diagnosis before ANY kind of sexual activity. Absolutely do not wait until after it's already been done.

No apologies! Disclosure is just one thing that I'm like over the top about and I'll mention it about 18,000 times!

I'd say your sex life isn't over at all, I was in the same boat not to long ago. I was young when I caught HSV-1, I spent weeks depressed and disgusted with myself. Somehow I ended up to get it down there instead of on my mouth, I felt like my whole life was ruined. I'm finally coming to terms with it just like you! It's not the worst thing possible, if someone thinks otherwise they don't deserve you! They deserve nothing more but to educate them self. Herpes is super common, yet sadly has a negative image, even though half the people who do think it's nasty have it too!
