Had you heard of Barrett's Oesophagus before you were diagnosed?
Did you get as much information as you wanted from your doctor, or where did you turn to for more information?
It's great that this froum exists (and there are others like it) where you can seek answers from others in a similar situation, but have you ever wanted to just meet up with others sharing your problems over a cup of tea?
In 2007 on a similar forum, someone asked the simple question, "Southampton anyone?". This led to 3 of us meeting at a pub and from that the largest patient support charity for anyone with acid reflux problems was born.
Could history be about to repeat itself?
Next Monday evening (19th October), some people with Barrett's will be meeting at a pub in Brentwood. There is a possibility of discussing the formation of a patinet support group for Essex.
Hopefully Barrett's Essex will complement Barrett's Wessex soon.
If you want more details, or wish to consider starting a support group in your area, please message me.

Are you in UK?
Unfortunately, much as they might like to, gastroenterologists don't have enough time to discuss the diagnosis and condition sufficiently.
In Southampton (Barrett's Wessex's home), newly diagnosed patients are provided with our contact details and we often see them then come along to one of our drop-in sessions where they learn more. We work closely with our consultant gastroenterologists (two of them are on our board of trustees) and can help provide any answers we an't.
The model is now adopted in Bournemouth, Bath and Chelmsford and hopefully soon in SE London / NW Kent, Reading, Salisbury and Dorchester.
Although there are other groups around the country, they operate differently.
We hope to enable more groups to start but it can be a frustratingly slow process.
Visit www BarrettsWessex org uk for our details. The site also has links to all the other regional groups in UK and the on-line forum. And if you want to discuss the possibility of setting up a support group near you, there's a page about that on the site and you can conatct me directly by email. (Chairman @ ) .
