First christmas with RA and not great!

Over did the cleaning etc before my mum arrived and ended up in tears and in bed on the first day she arrived. Tried to drink a couple of glasses of red wine and then felt sick. Lots of exhaustion and even manged to be sick today (day after methotrexate). On the plus side, my 13 year old daughter did the tree and the cake, my 18 year old helped with the coal etc and my hubbie has done most of the cooking. Its been tough for them as usually they rest and I race round. My mum has been the hardest though. Endless questioning and worrying - why cant I do things, why don't I change drugs, why don't I phone the nurse? She has a friend with RA on different drugs who is fine and so thinks I should be on those ones. Rant over. Sorry, but needed to vent!

Its ok to vent! I had a bad day christmas day too, managed to cook a full english breakfast for the four of us, but ended up in bed for three hours in the afternoon. I just could not stay awake! The stress had caught up with me. I felt so guilty on my daughter though as she woke me up a bit upset at 5 wondering when we were eating christmas dinner! I had to jump up quick to get all the veg prepared, peel spuds, carrots, parsnips and swede, the chopping was very painful, then at least the caully, broccoli and sweetcorn was easy to cook! And the stuffing and pigs in blankets were easy, but we didn't eat till 7 and right after I was ready for bed again! I slept most if yesterday, luckily kids were at their dads and ai have been in bed all of today, but my son cooked breakfast - again a full english and he cooked a lovely curry for tea, so all i have had to do is a load of dishes which I wouldnt have minded uf the sweat wasnt dripping down my face, that has become unbearable now! I am so relieved it is all over and. I dont need to stress now till next year. My kids are older and their dad does not live with us so it can be difficult but they are 20 and 18 and actually starting to help a little now.. They went through a phase of seeming resentfulness about my illness but I am hoping they are getting a little more helpful as fhey get older! Some people manage to work, some manage to do running etc. i did manage work and long walks etc up until this last 18 months but I am trying to remain positive that it will happen again. My parents were wonderful and came a few days before to help tidy up. My bungalow has been a mess for ages as I just cant manage housework most days. Hopefully things will improve for us soon xx

Oh bless you.Its not good is it.I was on methotrexate but it affected my liver.I treat my husband to Xmas away so he didn't have to look after me as usual thou he doesnt complain doing everything.I can't do things with hands and this tapping on keys is crippling me in pain.I used to cook for a living but can't even hold a saucepan now.At moment am on prednisolone steroids, sulfasalazine, pregabalin and rhituximab thou that one not working.have tried various inject pens and next one is abatacept.now balance is effected and I trip up a lot.Wish I had my Mum but she too would not of understood the pain and meds we all try. In fact I was fine until she died.Have lots of rests and pace yourself and I hope new yr brings you some relief x

Blimey you are really suffering with your hands! I am ok at the moment holding pans, but have been like that, it is so frustrating. I found pred injections worked great first couple of times but did nothing after that.

the stress if losing your mum could have made things a lot worsee. I do believe i was coping very well until my job changed and also some bullying in work.

hope you get some relief soon! X

planned for xmas day quite well - M&S do a prepared Xmas dinner that just needs putting in the oven so no one had to do any prep! Did think ahead for that one. In fact, all the meals over exmas have been easy to heat ones rather than proper cooking, although my husband is quite a good cook. I think he thought that if I was taking a rest, he might aswell too!
