First ENT appt for vertigo/drop attacks. What to expect?

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have my first appt with the ENT consultant in a couple of days and I am terrified! My GP has referred me there due to vertigo drop attacks and suspects I may have Meineres Disease (which my mum also has).

I am just wondering what tests to roughly expect on the day? If you've been to the ENT dept for vertigo issues, what happened to you on your first visit? Did you need the camera down your nose procedure? (name of it escapes me sorry!)

Thanks in advance 😃

camera down the nose is for throat issues. I don't think they will do that. they will look in your ears and maybe do some ear tests. they are nothing to worry about. I dont think there is a test for meiners. I think the doctor will just listen to your symptoms and rule out other issues.

first app he will just look in your ears and set up testing. they dont test for menieres, they test to rule out everything else. usually they do mri to rule out serious issues. he will probably order a vng/eng test. caloric test. you need to see a neurotologist but some areas don't have them so he may just send you to a neurologist. he will probably suggest a low sodium diet and prescribe a diuretic. its best to get the testing done before seeing specialists. they usually are expensive and you need to travel to see them.

ENT consultant can't do much really. He will probably just look in your ears then refer you to audiology for more in depth testing.
