First eye went great but my second eye did not (yet) how much time should I give it?

On July 7th I had cataract surgery on my left eye using Tecnis Eyhance IOL. Well, the results were great and I'm seeing 20/20 out of that eye. Due to previous LASIK surgery and significant astigmatism, the doctor was happy with this outcome (maybe surprised?).

On July 21st I had surgery on my right eye. The right eye is (was) my dominant eye, had much less astigmatism and was supposed to be the "easier" of the two to correct successfully. My doctor recommended dialing back the correction a bit for the right eye to assist my near-field vision (mini-mono?)

so we proceeded with that plan.

Well, the results for the right eye have been much worse so far. Both near and far vision are blurry and I'm getting some ghosting. During my post Op appointment my doctor waived off my concerns saying that I need to give it time, adding that I might need glasses to drive at night! That's the first time he informed me of that!

My question is: Has anyone had significant improvement in vision after 2 weeks or a month after surgery?

My left eye improved markedly just 2-3 days after surgery and I'm worried. Thank you.

With Eyhance lens in both eyes my vision did get better after about 2 weeks although it was not a major change.

We need to know how each eye turned out as far as focus point to be able to predict the vision with mono vision. If you ended up hyper in both eyes that would be a situation that would cause focus problems both near and far. If you have too much spread between the eyes...that would be an issue also.

How good do you see near and far with each eye by itself? You can do the tape measure test where you place an object with various size print on it with good room light and move to where you can make out whatever smallest print you can see reasonably clearly and then measure that distance from the eye to it with a tape measure. From the defocus curves I have been working with I could estimate a rough point for eye and then chart how they work together.

The surgeons don't seem to want to do the correction eye test but would rather move on and let someone else do it. I went to Wally World and got their $99 contact/glasses eye checkup. The doctor turned out to be a good one and she said she recommended cataract surgery to the surgery center I went to...and knew my surgeon...small world. That would tell you where you ended up. Since it costs money it might be wise to wait about 3 weeks to a month to give your eyes time settle and heal.

I had a lot of variable vision for 4-6 weeks after cataract surgery. Some days was good vision, other days quite poor worse than 20/40.

It finally stabilized after I could stop taking the Rx eyedrops after about 6 weeks and stayed good after that about 20/25 uncorrected.

So its possible for vision to take a few weeks to stabilize, it varies with each person and eye!

Thanks, that give me a little more runway to improve. I may be expecting too much too soon but my expectations were set high by the first surgery. I am also experiencing fluctuations in my vision but the post op directions say to expect that. My right eye is under corrected for distance a bit to help with near vision but so far its not helping. Fingers crossed.

OK, So its been 8 days since cataract surgery on my right eye. The double vision has lessened and the near field vision has improved a bit. Still, near and distance vision are not satisfactory compared to the left eye.

Doing the mini-mono, it seems as if I have sacrificed distance vision for very little improvement in my near field vision.

My vision is still fluctuating but, based on what I am experiencing right now, I would not recommend doing mini-mono. I would stick with the Eyehance IOL but just go for max distance vision in both eyes. I meet with the optomatrist from the office next week. Should know a lot more then.

can you describe the quality of your near vision with Eyhance? how close up can you see before you need readers? do you have better near vision with the eye set to max distance?

Well, so far, with my max distance (left) eye, I can see my computer screen 3 feet and farther. Inside 3 feet and I need glasses and truthfully I just wear them for comfort and sharpness when I'm on the computer.

I need glasses to read my text messages with either eye. With the distance eye I can also see my car dash and gauges no problem. The frustrating thing for me is that my near distance vision with my mini-mono near vision eye is not much better than my max distance eye! My vision is still fluctuating so I'm hoping this will change as the eye fully heals.

Overall, I'm happy with the Eyhance IOL. I'm not sure how it stacks up against Vivity but the clarity of vision is excellent beyond 3-4 feet and with any EDOF lens you will still want glasses close up.
