i had my stitches out an now i need packing for a few weeks. they never told me about this before i had it done they only mentioned stitches. i had to get an emergency prescription for bandages so it could be done. why didnt they pack it from the start? i was in agony with those stitches!

had it packed by same nurse who removed stitches, when i saw my surgeon later he said it was packed to tight an it only needs doing every other day rather than every day which is what the nurse told me. why are people telling me different things?!?

and is it normal for it to bleed? got a huge waterproof plaster thing covering it an i can see where its bled. and when will i be able to sit? still too sore to even contemplate it. cheers for any help u can give me smile

First off id say you are heading down the right road by now following the packing route rather than having it stitched up, id say things will probably start to improve for you now smile

Perhaps they realised this mistake and are now taking a better approach to healing it, all be it that they should have told you!

I have no experience of the packing as I had a bascoms procedure so I will let someone else come along and answer your worries regarding how often it needs doing etc.

What I would recommend buying is a coxcyx cusion, you can get one in argos for £15 which ive just bought, its made me able to sit down comfortably a good few days earlier than I would have thought! honestly cant recommend it enough, takes all the pressure off the area.

    Good luck.

I have just had my second op to remove a pilonidal sinus and as before I have been having the wound packed daily. I have always been told that it needs to be changed daily at first whilst it is still quite leaky, but once healing is underway I cut it down to every other day. I agree with you that it does get worrying when different people tell you different things! I have lost count of the number of different nurses I have seen!
