First ovarian cyst. So scary.

I have just had the most scary three weeks of my life. Three weeks ago I started with some low pelvic pain. I thought I might have been constipated because I have experienced that before so I took some molvicol for two days. The pain didn't go away so I went to my local medical centre where they did an X-ray and also a scan of my ovaries. The X-ray was fine but a few small cysts where found in my ovaries about 14mm and 17mm. I was told to take some panadol and they gave me a referral to a gynocolgist if I wanted piece of mind. Come Friday I was still in a lot of pain so I went back to the medical centre and I was reassured again. The thing is that 6 months ago I lost my beautiful 62 year old mother to ovarian cancer so my head was not in a good place. The next day my family flew out to the Gold Coast for the typical theme park holiday which we had planned for a long time. The first night up there I woke up shaking and sweating and packed myself off to the emergency department in the middle of the night by taxi. I waited for hours. They did my blood pressure, a blood test and a urine test. Again I was told to take some panadol and nurofen and to enjoy my holiday. It was so hard to put on a brave face for my three boys on holiday while fearing I had ovarian cancer just like my Mum. I kept doing all the theme park rides even though I was in a lot of pain. I didn't want to ruin it for my family. Once we got home I saw my normal GP and saw the gynocologist the next day. He was lovely and explained things so I could understand. I had a scan and could see my very normal cyst on the screen. He reassured me how common ovarian cysts are. I now have some panadeine fort for the pain and I am finally starting to feel the pain starting to ease. This experience shook me to the core, especially after seeing what my Mum went through. I googled and read many stories on this forum so I thought I would add my story too.

I am so pleased every is working out for you and you have some peace of mind.     I too had a really scary experience, I started getting some pain in my left groin over the course of a few days then one evening the groin pain came on , it was excruciating, never felt pain like it , I was screaming out ( I have suffered gallstone pain but this was far worse).    My husband called a ambulance and I went in hospital. After three days of test, 2 ct scans and other scans , many blood tests, a doctor came and told me I had a mass on my ovary! I felt so scared, at that point I thought I was going to die. My husband & Daughter was with me . I then had to have 2 internal scan ( the first internal scan they couldn’t see much) I was then told that they thought it was a dermoid cyst. I saw a gynaecologist and he said the best thing was to do another internal scan in 8 weeks to see if the cyst had grown. I told him firmly that I wanted it removed asp .  11 weeks later I had a operation to remove my left ovary & tube. After the op the surgeon told me I didn’t have cyst , I had a piece of fatty gristle attached to my ovary ( totally benign) but the weigh of the gristle had caused my ovary to become tortsion (the ovary had twisted around)  after three days of op I felt completely normal and relieved that it wasn’t anything serious or life threatening. But those weeks while waiting for the op were the worst of my life because I was walking around in fear so I know how you felt. All the waiting is what I think makes it worse. But good end to your story and mine x
