First post op appointment.

I had my rthr almost 4 weeks ago. It feels great and was told I can put full weight on it. One more week on a walker, then on to a cane.

The problem is that my left hip is getting worse. The doctor looked at the x-rays and said I have moderate to severe OA and it is preventing me from doing very much. He wanted me to wait 3 months to see how my right is doing before scheduling my left. I was hoping to get my left done right after my right so I could live life. I havent been able to do much for over a year and havent been able to work for the last 7 months. Now I have to modify my plans for 3 months longer than I planned.

On a good note, only one of my hips hurts now.

      I'm 47.

Just want to get to pain free and continue my life.

      How's your recovery been?

Well, at our age, recovery hasn't been bad at all. The first few days I had a fever and felt sick but as soon as I got home I started feeling much better and the pain was just about gone. Being tired after doing anything was something I wasn't ready for but that is normal.

I lost my job in September due to my physical limitations. I pushed it as long as I could. Now I have to look for a job that is less physically demanding but that won't happen until I get my second hip done.

    Hi Chris,

great that you new hip feels great and you can put your full weight on it -

Bad news about the left hip - I was in the same situation ... RTHR March 2015, at follow up visit in may, left hip showed severe OA - Had LTHR September 2015 -

There must be a reason that my surgeon wanted to wait 6 months, so I trusted him - and I was in shock and denial too....

I am not sure what to tell you -

Do you still have your job? and what kind of a job was/is it ?

    Take care, darling

    big warm hug

No, I lost my jobe in September when my limitations were preventing me from doing a lot but I continued anyway. I was the maintenance supervisor of a resort condo. They were aware of my situation but when they saw me hobbling around carrying a 10 foot ladder and then climbing it they said they had to let me go because they were worried about me getting hurt. They said that if my job was still available after I recovered they would gladly take me back. Since then my boss has retired and they have hired 2 people to take my job so getting my old job back isn't an option which is too bad. it doesn't look like I'll be able to get a job for a while.

I guess I just have to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.

I had my first done in November and am looking forward to getting the other done in a few weeks. I wanted to get them both done at once but they refused to do that using my other arthritic condition as the reason.

I am more pain now than I was before the first one but getting close now.to what I hope will be longer term relief from the hip pain, but there will be no change to the other parts of my body affected by AS.
