First posting - help with awful side effects- advice please.

Posted , 2 users are following.

I was prescribed 2.5mg Ramapril in November for two months - with no side effects. BP 160/112. However the dose was upped to 5mg daily one month ago and since then I haven't felt well at all. I have had dizzyness, feelings of fatigue, headache, feelings of anxiety and no patience. In fact I feel like I'm living in a fog and walking through mud.

Am going back to see my GP next week because I can't live like this.

Has anyone else had any symtoms like these? I feel like just stopping the medication but have read that this is not advisable. Advice please.

Thanks

Susan

Dear Susan, I have been taking this drug for the past 2 years after a heart attack at 35. For the first year I was taking 2.5mg twice a day but last April my doctor doubled my in take and life has not been the same since. The new amount only lasted 2 weeks because my blood pressure fell through the floor and it had to be reduced for my safty. Since then I have felt everything that you have explained in your description.

I have constant pain in my upper body joints and I wonder round atleast 50% of the day in a dizzy state which I first thought was like depression. I have booked an apoint tomorrow 20/02/09 with my doctor and I am going to insist he takes me off this helliish ride that I have been on for what feels like forever.

wish you the best for the future.

I have been on medication for high blood pressure for over 20 years, however, I sufferred a stroke last year and Ramipril was prescribed, along with the tablets I was already taking. From that time I have had a sore throat and tongue but have been advised that it is not the Ramipril - been put down to hormones. The dosage was increased to 5mg from December and I feel the same as Susan and Andrew have described. I feel at my worst in the morning and between feeling like this and trying to recover from my stroke - it can be quite depressing.

I see my own Doctor in a couple of weeks and I am going to bring up this matter again.

I have been on Ramipril for two years, and have suffered a sore dry throat and tongue since then.

I have seen a ENT specialist and had a throat examination by camera, showing nothing untoward, but I still have a constant sore throat which my GP tells me to suck lemon drops.

I also have joint pain, particularly in shoulder and neck, and I seriously consider stopping taking these capsules as it is depressing me, problem is I had a heart attack 12 years ago, and fear having another.
