First PS operation - advice needed please

Hi, need some advice please.
Have had a PS in my back for around 2 or 3 years I would say. It started for approx a year as just a small hard lump with only an occasional dull pain and this year turned into 2 close together lumps at the surface which were bleeding and had a slight discharge.
I would say the whole site is around 2 inches including sinus and both lumpsand doesn't feel particularly deep.
Now the first step my doctor took was to give me loads of antibiotics which didnt work, he has now refered me for surgery which is on the 6th of next month, only 2 weeks away!!
My PS is only occasionally flaired up, for example at the moment it doesnt hurt a bit, but is red, it only causes me bother say 1 week a month.
Due to all these factors and it being my first operation what would you say they are going to do??
I'm not sure I want or need a wide excision, can I just ask for it to be drained??
Thanks, and sorry about the essay. I'm 20 and male if that means anything to anyone.

I had a wide section removed and its now packed up with this stuff called aqua cell (abit like a silicone implant) as aparently they have to let the muscle tissue heal from the bottom of the wound up to the skin. Its painful, leaks blood and puss and seemingly embarassing, ive lost count of the number of people that have been fidgeting with my anus over the last week or so. Then after the op youve got the no drinking thing which is annoying too and the seeing a nurse eversingle day of the week to have it dressed and a new aqua cell put in.
You must think however, from the sounds of it mine started like yours, a strange painless lump that you think \"itll just go soon as long as i ignore it\" then it got bigger and bigger then seperated into two equally wierd lumps that bled alot, hurt and were most annoying, but once its gone its gone, the pain, the blood and puss and the embarrasment, ive been avoiding any offers of any bedroom contact with the ladies as its a pretty disgusting thing for me to look at let alone any young lady...sorry maybe too much info. appologies for the essay but i just had to say i know the feeling, the pain and all your going through, get the op over with recover properly, do exactly what the doctors say and youll be alreet!!

They went for a bascoms procedure, cleft closure which as someone else has recently posted a topic about is the best, neatest, and most successful out of the options.
I have a nice impressive cross of stitches too!
the wound is nice and away from the midline just like they explained to me and looks to be nice and settled already.
I would advise anyone to push for this operation already, i havent felt any pain since it was done even when i awoke due to a decent course of painkillers, i can sit normally if i want, and i dont have to worry about having the wound packed as I would if it was healing by secondary intention.
A big thumbs up so far!
