10 days ago i was just chatting away to my children and next thing i came round to them screaming and crying, i had no idea what had happened, my daughter said i stopped talking mid conversation. dropped to the floor smashing my face into the wall on the way down, landed in a heap. eyes in the back of my head with the whites showing, a grunting gasping for air noise, and arm and leg jerking, she said this was for 20 - 30 seconds but felt longer. when i started to come round i had no idea what had happened, didnt believe her until i felt the throbbing of my nose start and the pain in my jaw. i was scared shocked and embarressed. i stumbled up to my bed and stayed there until i felt a bit more human, stupidly i didnt seek medical advise. i havent felt the same since. have been feeling anxious, heart fluttering, weak, sickly, pain behind my right eye (this is the side i fell on) worse towards the end of the day when im tired. i seem to get a few words mixed up and feel a fraction away from my body if that makes sense. i have been to the drs today and have a referral for neuro assessment. i dont know what to expect. can any one advise

    Hello claire69993,

This sounds very scary.  I hope you are feeling a bit better, calmer.  It is very helpful that you had witnesses and have such a detailed witness as your daughter.

I am a female in my 30s, and have had epilepsy (seizure condition) since I was 18 months old.  I am fine and I understand how to take care of myself and how to describe to others how they can help take care of me, when/if a seizure happens.

INFORMATION the neurologist may want to know:

    - your actual, current, medical insurance card & your, current, id card.

    - When did the incident happen?

    - What were you doing at the time?

    - Did anyone see the incident occur? Do they have a description?

    - Does anyone in your family have a history of epilepsy?

    - A list of medical conditions that you or your family may have.

    - A list of and medications and vitamins that you take:

    Dosages

    what times of day

how many times during the day

how long you have been taking that medication or vitamin.

Having a list of the above can help a docotor (neurologist) out significatly:

    - helping to make a better diagnosis.

    - what medications to prescribe and start an idividual on.

    - helps with knowing what labwork and prescriptions to write

    Bringing the following may help:

    - a file folder to hold the all the information and paperwork in.

    - blank paper to write on.

    - paper and pencil

    - something to do to keep you busy while you wait.

Hope this list helps a little, claire69993.

Hi Claire,.I had my first seizure 7 weeks ago. No warning, I knew nothing until I was in the ambulance and even then I was totally confused.

My husband heard me groan and found me convulsing and going blue, he had to rescucitate me.

I was luckirr than you in that I was in a nice comfy chair. I had an Mri which found a lesion on my brain so now I have to be regularly monitored. Ive got to be honest, for the first few weeks I was frightened to pick up the iron or a knife. Im on anti seizure drugs now for life

I really feel for you, it is so frightening but as time goes on and you don't have anothet, life gets back to some kind of normality.

I wish you well and hope your tests are ok although it does help to know why it happened. Take care and keep in touch x

    Dear Claire,

Myheart goes out to you. I have been there. You have no control of your body. It was a seizure at it's worst. The space out feeling is right on. There but not in the moment. You can be in the middle of watching TV or chatting someone up and you get a far distance look coming over your face. My daughter always knew when I was about to have a seizure, even before I did. Your body just goes, even your ability to talk. You may even speak like Tazen " Me Tazen , you Jane. I go to jungle".Brealthing is stressed during a seizure as the chest muscles tighten up.The legs , arms and whole body jerks or uncontroled moments. You can hurt yourself badly.I myself have smashed my head against walls. You get a terrible headach afterwards and only want to sleep it off. Walking is slow and difficult. You may get pain all over your head, the back, front etc. Your jaws tighten up when having a seizure.Mixing up words is commen and forgetfulness too. Having a seizure sure does feel like a Mac truck has hit you. If you have full body seizures one after another a abulance should be called. This happen to me. It is serious. Sometimes the seizure don't stop. I had over 100 one day and ended up in the ER. Having to be put out of it on meds. If you get a warning ahead of time get into a safe position. On the floor , couch, in bed etc. Hopfully someone will be with you at the time. Some see colours before or smell a bad odor, feeling or vison like small flashing lights. when you see a doctor I know it is because you want help but be careful you maybe label DEAD if a EEG shows no seizure activity. Be to the point when talking. If you show any emotions some doctors go to town with it.I hope for the best for you. Seizures are what the word means uncontrol moments.

Let me know how you are doing. Seizures do run their course. Been there.

Thanks for all your helpful comments. I have had nothing since. Im awaiting a telephone assessment from the first fit clinic which can be anything up to the 16th. Im feeling a little better in my self maybe thats because I know the balls in motion now. I am still getting words mixed up tho and saying quite random things. Its wierd as as soon as I have said the wrong word I can correct it. Its just comes out wrong! Like I was looking for the remote control but called it a tumble dryer! And going to the wrong wall for light switches! The worst part is not driving or working until I know whats happened. I work with vulnerable adults so until im deemed safe and fit im in limbo.

      Dear Claire,

I know what you are going throught with mixing up wronge words of doing  something else that you never intended to do. At one point I had to ask my daughter what comes next in doing a simple activity. The brain is so stressed with seizures it has a hard time processing information in order and as you wish. It's in a jumble. Just think our brains are so wonderfully made by Almighty God. I had a difficult time when I was able to return to work. I was very much afraid of having seizures at work. Driving would be so dangerous. Tonic seizures will just tighten up every muscles in your body and than the jerking moments. I did not drive for a long time. I like your wording a tumble dryer. You hit the nail on the head. When you have had seizures you do say alot of random things. Seizures stress out the whole body. I just wanted to sleep it off. Escape from it for awhile but I often had them in my sleep or just after waking up. There is no control and that is the worst feeling you can have as a human being.

I hope you get some answers soon. Feeling as you said in a limbo is right on , you smart woman.
