Those are all typical symptoms. For me, my first symptoms were leg cramps at night and 'extra' itching during the winter months. Other symptoms came later; nausea was one of the last ones and once I was experiencing that, I made the decision to start dialysis.

Hi Mike,
Unfortunately, I believe the answer is 'yes'. I could be wrong but I don't believe an ultrasound test will reveal anything other than the size of your kidneys, eg. whether your kidneys are swollen or not. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Hi Mike
You probably need to mention your gfr level, as it's hard to know where you are with the disease otherwise. For myself, I have been getting a leg cramp (always same place) though not a 'normal' one that is intense and lasts a short time, but a longer lasting, less intense pain. And for a while there I had quite an itchy scalp and dry hands. This was about the time when my gfr was around 50. However, It was really hard to tell which symptoms belonged to what in my case, as I came down with polymyalgia rheumatica and possibly arteritis at the same or similar time, which I think may have caused the glomerulonephritis. I didn't think anything of the symptoms (they were not really noticeable) until I had a blood test. Some others on this site have said that at first there are no symptoms and often the first that anyone knows about a problem is from their blood test.

When I saw the renal specialist my lowest gfr had been 48, and he seemed to think that was barely worth seeing him for! At the start of the year it was 78, but he checked up and apparently it had been 78 the last time I had a check-up, and know one did anything about it then (didn't notify me). I have noticed vary bad swelling in my ankles for years now, and only the podiatrist seemed at all concerned. So what I am saying is that 85 is not at all bad. Perhaps your symptoms are due to something else? (but I'm not a health professional!)

Hi mike, Can't really comment fully on your symptoms but only my experience. I'm currently at 13% function and I could only dream of insomnia. Fatigue, followed by bouts of fatigue with some fatigue thrown in for good measure. I'm always tiered. I'm lucky and don't suffer from nausea yet and no itching. I have been getting cramps in the arch of my feet for a while but not on the larger muscles, calfs , quads etc. I also get headaches but they are down to my BP tablets. So to sum up, the main indicators for me are tiredness and foot cramps. I do hope they get to the bottom of your issues.

Hi,
If you have a GFR of 85 still it is doubtful your symptoms are due to kidney disease, it is called the silent disease as you don't really get symptons until you are advanced. You don't mention what your blood pressure is, high blood pressure can cause your symptoms or could be something else all together. What condition have you been diagnosed with that says you have CKD as a GFR of 85 is good, remember this figure is not an exact science and can change due to various factors. Have you any further information regarding your condition and diagnosis that will show more of a picture of your situation please.

That is excellent news as anything over is classed as normal. You must be so chuffed from the kidney point of view. It is nice to here good news stories. I do hope you go on to find out the cause of your symptoms. Good luck for the future window.post_1476557823195_21 = function(win,msg){
