First time using setraline for anxiety

Hi, I've just started taking 50mg of setraline for anxiety. So far I'm feeling ok just a little tired and numb?!? I have propanolol should I feel anxious? It's taken me weeks to actually start the medication as I was scared I was going to feel worse. I would appreciate any support from people who are going through the same x

    Hi Maria

It takes time for them to work. Maybe it's early days. Have you taken the propanalol?

i really didn't want to take them either. My dose was gradually increased up to 150mg but it's just been reduced due to the side effects. My cpn told me there is no exact science with them as the doses effect people differently. I would give it a couple of weeks and if no improvement spark to GP. I honestly don't think there are any tablets that don't come with side effects. It's a decision between being depressed and anxious or side effects it seems. I have no intention of staying on them long term and I'm not going to mess around trying others. Hope this helps.

hi, yes I took the propanolol as was already feeling anxious before taking the setraline! I'm the same as you, i've reached the point with my anxiety whereas I think the side effects are worth dealing with so I can start feeling normal again! How long have you been on them?

Hi, I am on week 4 of setraline, I was having panic attack and feeling anxious . I have never been on any medication before and I was a bit wary of taking pills. The first week was horrible I was vomiting and had no appetite and couldn't sleep but that did pass and I have to say I am now feeling much more in control of my life and the side effects have almost disappeared , I still feel a bit panicky but I can controll it better. Stick with it and if you have any doubts go back to the docs . I was also given propanolol but decided not to take it as it slows the heart rate down and in my mind I felt that was a bit too much but if you feel the need to take it then do so . Take care x

It's so reassuring to speak with other people, had a twomhourbrun of anxiety this afternoon and it was worse than any I' be experienced For a long time. Reall upset stomach as well. Feel a bit better now so hoping for a reasonable night and day 1 under my belt.

i'm only on 10mg tabs of propanolol so can control how much I take. It did take the edge off but generally only use in emergencies or when flying as daily use causes drowsiness and nausea

      Hi zara101

Having read your posts I will say that I think sometimes I know from personal experience it can be hard to decide if the side effects are worth it but stick with it. I strongly Recommend not to drink alcohol and exercise. Do things you enjoy and and see positive people.

Tablets aren't a miracle but they help people in different ways. I've tried to come off AD and have experienced bad times , they do make you more on a level and now excepted maybe I might always need them. Anxiety and depression is an illness and if something helps to treat it then so what!

I'm new on these 3rd week in after thinking I was ok but the anxiety and depression slowly crept back in so like you I'm getting side effects still but determined this time to just keep going on them get them in my system and not mess around with them. It's really not worth it!

Keep in touch how your doing it's always good to share experiences as you don't feel so alone.
