First toe displaced

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hello,

7 weeks ago I broke the first toe.

The broke was complex (it was completely displaced) so I did a surgery and until yesterday I have had pins (k-wire) inside.

7 weeks later the doctor taped the toe with the second finger and said now I can walk a bit day by day. But I am so scared to walk and when I try to walk I look like limping

Is this normal for the first 3 days to look like a lame after the removal of pins and how fast will be able to walk normaly?

Thank you

    HI Leurent,

It is completely normal to be limping/not walking as you normally would be after so long.

I would keep going as you are, but dont push yourself- only you know your limits in terms of pain and in terms of movement- doing too much too quickly may set you back and obviously that is something nobody wants to happen! I would keep moving as much as you feel comfortable doing as you will gain movement and confidence with more speed and ease than if you were doing so without- my brother has had similar and he was walking normally within a fortnight and playing football in 6 weeks!

I am currently 10 weeks post talonavicular/calcaneocuboid fusion and have been crutch free with my aircast walking boot for the last 2 weeks but it has taken me a while to get comfortable walking like this, I get reviewed in 2 weeks and hopefully able to start using a normal shoe after the appointment although i know i will be unable to walk 'right' for a while! Hang in there, you are doing well, and remember if you have any worries/issues/concerns just ring your surgeon!
