Fissure surgery didn’t work

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hello I’ve had a partial internal Sphincterotomy for an anal fissure almost 3 months ago and I’m still in pain. Pain is not as bad as before the surgery (pain was 8-10) but still average 3/4 pain level , some days 5/6 . Any one out there with this experience? If so, what did you do?...I don’t want to have another surgery since I’ve been told that there is no guarantee that it will be pain free. I’m afraid that it will get worse. Currently I’m still doing sitz baths , using the nifedipine cream and taking Motrin 600mg when it’s really bad. Please advice.

I doubt it can get worse, you at the worse level already. It's time to manage the fissure instead of trying to cure it, it will heal overtime.

Check out my profile, I have a link to my blog and some things you can try. If you not already drinking lots of liquid, then do so, it doesn't have to be water. Liquid helps your stool become soft, but it takes your body 1-2 to adapt to the liquids, so it is not a quick fix. It can be any liquid, milk, juice, water, whatever, drink as much liquid in a day as possible.

I list some exercises you can try to do but you have to be consistent to keep doing it. There is also a list of foods you try can avoid, also cut down on your foods, the more you eat the more that needs to come out.

Surgery would be the last thing I would recommend, everyone thinks it is a quick fix, it is not.

There is a heart blood pressure medication that you can you speak to your doctor about, it helps lower the blood pressure in your entire body instead of just your anus area, this allowing your body to heal.

I have not had the surgery, my fissure opened up in 2013 while straining. Bowl full of blood scared me to death. Proc doc gave me nefeipine cream, made me really sick, so had to find my own way to a healthy sphincter. I started with two sitzbaths a day using coconut oil and Epsom salts, sitting in the bath for 20-30 minutes each time. After each bath/shower I use a cotton swab soaked in hydrogen peroxide and really clean my fissure, stings a little, but worth it to avoid infection. I then take a cotton sway and use petroleum jelly and coat my fissure really well.

I also have pretty much changed my diet, eat healthier foods, fiber, eat prunes everyday, drink a lot of liquids. Have only had two flare ups since 2013, I believe was due to diet, I also flew a lot during those flare ups, and the airline seat is a LOT of pressure on your fissure. I also bought  4 Total Pillows, 1 for each of our vehicles, and two for home and travel. When you sit on a hard surface it exacerbates the fissure, so alleviating the pressure helps a lot. At least for me!

GP gave me diltiazem 2 %/ bethan 0.1 % GE, and said do sit baths three times a day for ten minutes, it takes six to eight weeks for some people to heal, I would do anything I could before having surgery.

Hi Daz, it's been 5 months since my partial LIS and the fissure still hasn't heal. I've a vegan for over a year so diet and constipation are not issues for me. I've tried olive oil, sitz baths with coconut oil, nifedifine cream, nitoglyceren, and diazi something all of which help but do not completely take the pain away. I last got botox injected on both sides> brought pain level to tolerable level but still painful to sit, painful BM's and still occasionally blood on stool. I am terrified to have surgery again as surgeon now wants to do a fissurectomy. Any one out there done a fissurectomy? HOw long for it to heal? Daz, everyone heals differently. I say 3 weeks is still early but if it worked for you, you should feel better week by week. Keep me posted. Avoid constipation, drink lots of water. I still do sitz bath twice a day for 10 minutes and take 2 hot showers a day. stay distracted, that helps for me.Good luck and keep us posted.

I’m sorry to hear yours hasn’t healed.  It must be so frustrating for you too! What is the flap surgery I’ve read about?

The best thing I can do is sit on a hot wheat bag for hours a day. It really helps.

A lot of folks here recommend surgery, botox etc .. I disagree with those methods, you have to change your mindset from trying to heal it to managing it instead. Once you figure out how manage it, the healing will come in time. Look at my profile, I have written up a blog of my experience, you might find some tips. I had a chronic fissue for over a year and was in agony ..Make sure you drinking liquids every day, not just saying. Liquids help your stool become soft, but takes about 2 months for the body to get used to it ..

      3 things help me

      1. Certain exercises

      2. Lots and lots of liquids, not just water, the more the merrier

      3. Finally a pain doctor recommended some low blood pressure pills, similar to what the creams do, it lowers your blood pressure for your in entire body, not just your anus.

Read my blog and let me know if you have any questions ..

      Hi,

I run a business and there is no way in the world I could have gone literally one more day before having surgery. I was desperate and my pain was that bad. I’m a tough guy and have had major surgery in the past but nothing comes close to the 16 hours a day I was in pain before my surgery. To say people should not have surgery it crazy. My business has all but collapsed due to this fissure my family life was all but over, my kids were in tears seeing me in such excruciating pain everyday!!!!i suggest everyone have the surgery as soon as you can if you need it and don’t wait another day!!! No exercise or drugs can cure it when it’s this bad quick enough.  I can only assume that your pain wasn’t half as bad. Of course, if the pain is tolerable then yes wait it out for a bit longer and try different things. Each case and person is different and have different jobs and lifestyles. Kind regards Daz

Hi, thanks. I can’t run my business the way I am. I hate this and I’m scared it won’t heal. Some days the pain is unbelievable! I’m thinking about another Botox procedure if dr will do it.
