Fitness for Life???

Hey everyone

After my little adventure horse riding and feeling rather stiff  I thought it was a good time to make contact with my local sports centre :tennis: to see what packages they had to suit my circumstances. Seemingly, at our local leisure trust they have a scheme called Fitness for Life and anyone deemed unfit through ill health can use the facilities and sessions for £2.00 rrp £4.95. (I believe your Dr gives you a prescrition??) SO I have made an appointment with a physiotherapist/Sports consultant to help me use the facilities and create a programme to suit my needs and to teach me about pacing. So I guess you have to give it a try. Does anyone else have this facility in their area?

Happy swimming guys!

P.S I must tell you this little thing becuase I dont mind my ME buddies having a laugh at my expense BUT... Whilst we waited for the manager to come the lovely girl on recpetion said "Theres a yoga class have a look through the window because that will probably be something that might suit you" So off I toddled and the door was open so I sat on a bench and watched this little old dear trying to put her legs in some very abnormal positions. As her leg came round her shoulder she let rip! I shall say no more but I laughed SO loud I think I am probably banned before I even farted I mean started!

Donna thank you for giving me a laugh this morning

I like the sound of this scheme, I will look into if they do anything like it here. But I think I will steer clear of yoga

Ha Ha!! That's one of the main reasons I'm not even attempting to do yoga. You probably ruined it for ever for the poor dear now!

Have tried a couple of time now to reply to your horseplay postings but both were chucked out ........ Was it something I said??

It's funny I gp as offered to enroll me onto fitness for life classes, but I refused. In my area it is mostly older people who go. When I fel up to it I go for a swim.

    Hi All

Thanks for the laugh, Donna  The mental image was great!

We have this scheme in Rochdale and I was refered to a local gym with my afformentioned shoulder problem. At the risk of sounding snobby it was full of benefit scallys (this is a problem here as you may have heard lately) with personal hygiene issues!

I decided I would be better off swimming :surfer: and headed off to the pool :D Have not swum for a while but thinking of doing so. Any advice? :P

Do I conserve my energy or will the benefits of excersise out weigh the cost?

ps spelt excersise about 3 different ways and it still dont look right, any English teachers out there?

I think the correct spelling is exercise, Dale :? I find words never seem to look right these days - in fact absolutely nothing looks right, especially me - I got a real  when I looked at me in the wedding photos. I hope very much a touch of airbrushing can be used in the final ones. Talk about a tired, old bag!!sad

Back to exercise - well I tried swimming ages ago and a) the smell of chlorine made me feel sick and b) standing on one leg trying to shoehorn myself into my cossie was a non-starter :weird: so that was the end of that. The only thing I really can do is walk the dog (or the dog walks me actually) and I think this is sometimes more than I should do judging from the aches and pains the next day.:dog:

    It's all soooo frustrating .............

I love walking my dog. as I have said before somewhere, if you are really out of it all you need to do is go to the nearest field or rec, let the dog off and then just walk 100 yds and turn 180 degrees and them 100 yds and turn, 100 yds and turn. You do a minimum of walking and the dog wears itself out chasing back and forth to keep up with you. Or invest in one of those long arm things with a claw at the end that picks up and tosses a tennis ball. then just find a seat, sit on it and keep chucking the ball for the dog to chase.

After all, it's the dog that needs the exercise. Do you really think I would go tramping round in the wet for my own benefit

Well, I'm not letting Roxy off the lead ever again after what happened last week (dog fight :yikes: ). Have tried one of those ball throwing wotsits but the pain from my throwing arm the next day is excrutiating.

In fact, everything is one big pain at the moment. :wah:
