FIX URETHRA STRICTURE--NOW (HOW) OR WAIT--

Posted , 3 users are following.

I STARTED A DISCUSSION RECENTLY WHEN I THOGUHT I HAD A PROSTATE PROBLEM (STILL MAY BE THE CASE).  I'M 79--GOOD HELATH--GREENLIGHT LAXER ABOUT 12 YEARS AGO.  SYMPTOMS NOW NOT AS SEVER AS THEN.

IN EVALUATING ME THE UROLOGIST WAS NOT ABLE TO PUT THE CYSTOSCOPE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE URETHRA.

SHOULD I HAVE A PROCEDURE WHERE THEY CUT AND WIDEN THE PASSAGE?  SHOULD I HAVE MORE TESTS? SHOULD I JUST WAIT?  THERE IS NO EMERGENCY AND I CAN STAY AS IS FOR SOME TIME, UNLESS THE PASSAGE CLOSES.  I THEORETICALLY WILL LIVE ANOTHER 20 YEARS--SO WHAT SHOULD I DO?

As someone who has made this mistake you need to be very careful.  I suffer from pain daily due to having a stricture treated without having enough information.

Before you make any decision you MUST ask to have a urethragram and a flow and voiding test.  If you flow-rate is greater than 10ml/s and you are emptying your bladder I would recommend to not have any procedures.  This is considered normal, you should instead consider a watchful waiting programme.

A ureathagram will tell you where and how long the stricture is.  These things are very difficult to treat and almost always reoccur and most of the time they come back tighter and longer than previously.

Also, I would ask to be referred to a reconstruction specialist as they will follow best practice management of strictures and thus enable you to make a well informed decision.

    Good luck with your treatment.
