FixoFex Device to Stop PCO

Helio has an article on FixoFlex which a device to hold the human lens capsule similar to its natural form. The article is titled Innovative device maintains IOL stability, prevents posterior capsule opacification.
Sounds like it will work with most IOLs.
I should add it claims to make lens exchange an easier process and it claims repositioning a toric IOL will be possible.
Sounds exciting though only time will tell. Maybe others will know more about it.

Sounds great. Sign me up! Probably will take many years for FDA approval.

is this implanted along with IOL or something added to existing ones to help prevent pco

I really have not researched it and was just passing the article along. But I am guessing it is base that is implanted first, which fills the capsule bag and then the IOL.
I think they are waiting to get European approval, which is always easier than FDA approval.
It sounded like they have had people using it now for a few years and not 1 PCO. But like any new device, only time will tell.

It goes into the eye after the natural lens has been removed and before the IOL, during cataract surgery.

guess that excludes those who have had cataract surgery. Too bad a solution to pco not found sooner

So true - but pco much more prevalent than stated so would be nice for those going to have cataract surgery. hoping there is a cure for those of us post cataract surgery.

There is a paper: Preservation of capsular transparency and geometrical consistency in cataract surgery using a novel intracapsular ring
The company (or at least their website) is "Eye PCR." From their website:
"fixOflexTM was designed to fix the implanted IOL in its place and flex the empty capsule of the human crystalline lens. This is accomplished by refilling and maintaining contact with the inner peripheral surface of the lens capsule to reconstruct its shape similar to the normal dimensions of the human lens.
"The internal rim structures fix, center and stabilize the optical part of the IOL between the anterior and posterior capsular fixed space. The proprietary flexible structures on the outer rim change their exact angulation in order to stretch the lens capsule with minimal tension and adjust fixOflexTM to the bag. In addition, they adhere to Wieger’s ligament area to prevent PCO. Overall, the structure partially refills the capsular bag, thus preventing forward movement of the capsule and vitreous.
"Surgically, fixOflexTM is implanted in the lens capsule prior to IOL implantation by using a standard injector, similar to an IOL implantation. After placement of the fixOflexTM in the capsule, the IOL is injected, placed, and fixed within the structure. The surgical technique is identical to cataract or clear lens exchange surgery with an additional step of the fixOflexTM implantation."
