Flank pain

For the last week I have been having pain in left kidney and some in bladder on left side. Went to primary doctor and they found trace of blood in urine. Going to hospital for complete renal sonogram in the morning.
Last August I had severe sepsis due to retention. Ended up cathing for 6 weeks and ended up with a serious bladder infection. Then had a green light done because prostate was completely closed. Been doing fine for 10 months. Now this. I put the kidneys and bladder through a lot last year.
I have only had one kidney stone in my 64 years and that was over 11 years ago and I passed that one OK.
Has anyone had similar flank pain and what did it turn out to be.

The last time I had blood and the pain you describe it was a kidney stone and a large one at that. I have had many in my 48 years and this one was 10mm in size and no way it would pass on it's own. I rapidly went down hill as my kidney became abscessed and I had to be rushed to the hospital and put on antibiotics, then prepped for surgery. It had to be removed through my urethra. They use a scope to go in and break it into smaller pieces to be removed. Not a lot of fun, but that is what always causes that pain that you described in me. I always pass blood and I get bad pain starting in my back on the side with the kidney that is blocked. If you have one again they will figure it out.

I had a stone get stuck. Finally couldn't take it no more. Told my wife take me in. On the bumpy ride to the hospital it came loose.

From my own experience, I'd suspect a kidney stone. I've passed many in my 68 years and, as you already know, they are not fun. You described classic symtoms with them.

I had two turps and one greenlight done in around 14 years, of prostate problems. I am 68 years old. I used to have bladder stones, and I think it was because I couldn't empty my bladder completely, until I started doing CIC's. When I did have stones, i would have blood in my urine, and it was really dark, when urinating. it would scare me, until I found out that it was the bladder stones, that was causing the bleeding.
