Flare-free seasonal treats

Posted , 9 users are following.

With sugar, alcohol and stress being linked to flares, let's share things we can enjoy over Christmas that haven't caused us to regret the indulgence.

I realise everyone's responses are different, but here are mine;

Really dark chocolate. Nuts.  A long bath with a magazine while the house is empty. Stewed apples. Mangoes. A small glass of brandy or port. Really really tasty home-made gravy.

Merry Christmas everybody

My next-door neighbour makes twenty kinds of cookies and gives out sampler boxes to dozens of friends & neighbours. She cuts them very small. I had a couple of the tiny half-bite-sized ones and let my husband inhale the rest. I was so grateful he didn't have to miss out on this aspect of the season, because I'm sure not pouring cups of sugar into a bowl!

Sweet potatoes baked with maple syrup and butter.

Really good homemade gravy is the best thing of all to me. I get good chickens from small local family farms. They have so much more flavour than industrial poultry. And the 'wreck' makes fantastic stock.

It's been a great year here with you all! It makes a world of difference to me.

I love dark chocolate too..and crisps...and ice cream...and cake... this year I have made my very own Christmas cake for the first time ever!!...I regularly fed it rum, and its very very good!.

Over the holidays I will probably eat everything I want to, but in moderation of course, and probably not every day!..

    Merry Christmas to you all!!

My treats are:  A walk in the snow, while the sun is shining.  On my cross country skies, high above the clouds.  Taking pictures of this amazing landscape.   Breathing in this crisp cool clean air.  Listening to silence.  (because the world for a short little while is at ease)

Enjoy these beautiful quiet days.  Peace inspiration.

I'm still so newly diagnosed I'm trying to figure it all out. I have figured out however I can't do diet soda at all. I was heavily addicted to it but I stopped and my symptoms got better. I'm on the steroid cream so I wondered if that was just finally helping so I gave in and had two sodas and I paid for it. So that's out for me 😩.

I am from the UK and spending 3 months in Goa, India. The beautiful sunsets are so tranquil and sin free! However, I really miss the crisp mornings, the smell of Christmas with the mince pies, turkey and trimmings, not to mention the sherry etc. Jumbo prawns are lovely but no match for roast parsnips, home made gravy and the rest. Indian versions of Christmas carols are also quite fun and the TV reception is very poor so I don't think we will pick up the Queen's Speech!!

i wish you all a very happy and peaceful festive period and a healthy New Year. Many thanks to everyone for keeping up the moral support.

Hi Barking,  What will the spicey food do for you?  I know that the Lichen Planus in my mouth gets severely aggravated by the Indian cuisine.  As much as I enjoyed it in the past.  It has become a painful experience today - one small bite will be enough to get me in pain.

Enjoy the warm climate in December.  Happy Holidays.

I know what you mean - i have had several Christmases in Oz and while it is great fun and VERY different - I do feel i have missed out - tinsel in the long hot/ warm sunlit evenings is NOT the same... Turkey et al isnt really a goer either. Still it was wonderful to experience it and now I  really appreciate  what we got used to as children - cold dank weather in front of the log fire eating crumpets and cracking nuts

      Merry Christmas to you

Hi there, I am a lightweight with spicy foods (a heavyweight otherwise!), I only do korma or non spicy butter chicken and so don't aggravate the ever present problem. Festive cheer!!

Hanny you have just reminded me that I have not had oral lichen planus for quite some time!!...I had some great results using homeopathy treatment, namely Alsenicum alb...I dont know whether you have ever tried homeopethy for OLP but it can work for some people...stress btw is terrible for OLP it will flare up very quickly if overly stressed.  I happen to think OLP is very distressing because your whole mouth feels horrific constantly.

Made note of the Alsenicum alb....  Understanding that you couldn't remember the last part of it.

Be careful what you put in your mouth these coming days.

My enjoyment comes from atmosphere and such.  No longer from food.  Which I see as necessary nourishment, no more, no less.

      Sorry...its Arsenicum album

Yes I am a bit the same, I have Ulcerative Colitis too, another auto immune disorder, so everything has changed for me this year and I have to be very careful with some foods.
