Flare or not

A couple days ago I had lower stomach cramps and diarrhea (mushy/water) for like 3 hours that day and gassy /bloated stomach and belching . I drink pedylight and kept diet to very little of anything, the next day no diarrhea at all and felt pretty good, now I woke up this morning passing gas and some mucous discharge and then little solid bowel. Can you get muscous discharge a few days after having diarrhea and not be a flare ? This is not my usual signs of a flare except the mucous discharge (like clear sticky mostly) usually I have blood with mine but not so far that I could see. My questions and please someone answer me right away I am having serious panic attack with this. I am to scared to google because I suffer from chronic and very serious panic / anxiety attacks.

  1. Can you get muscous discharge one day and not start antibotics? Can someone share ?
  2. I have a 10 day supply of Flagy (but the gernic name) I had a bottle on hand in case of a flare the drugstore gave it to me on 12/2018 and the expiration date on the bottle says 9/2019 if I have to take it would it still be okay to take? has anyone else taking after expire date.
  3. When you have a flare with mucous and such do you start antibiotics right away or has anyone ever had a flare (that has been diagnosed with actual diverticulitis) and not take antibiotics?

I hope someone can reply as soon as possible please. Thanks.

Yes you can have mucus and not have a flare.

Don't take those antibiotics, they have an expiry date for a reason!

A flare usually has a lot of pain. Call the doctor in the morning if you are still freaked out. Don't forget to breathe and try to calm down a bit. Stress will make it worse.

I don't think you had a flare - sometimes a normal tummy upset is just a tummy upset. And if you've not put anything in it except fluid, you will have watery loose stools. In the UK my GP won't prescribe anything unless it's a definite infection, with swamping cramps and a fever. He does not want to build up antibiotic resistance. The standard treatment is 48 hours clear fluid, then a bland residue diet for a week, slowly reintroducing fibre. I would NOT take anything that's expired.
