I would take Curcumin supplements and Aloe Vera and L-Glutamine. Here's a little bit about Curcumin and UC..
An in-depth analysis of all the studies evaluating curcumin’s ability to manage inflammatory bowel disease (IBS, Crohn’s disease, and Ulcerative Colitis) found thatmany patients were able to stop taking their prescribed corticosteroids because their condition improved so dramatically by taking curcumin!
For many patients with IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) corticosteroids reduce their pain symptoms, but damage the intestinal lining over time actually making the condition worse.
However, supplementing with curcumin did not have these side effects and, because of its anti-inflammatory properties, actually helped heal the gut and supported the growth of good bacteria (probiotics).
I don't know what you've tried already so I'm just throwing this out there.

I suffer from bowel issues myself including narrowing of the small intestines and inflammation of the small intestines so I know what a misery these things are. I also take curcumin and aloe vera and l-glutamine btw. Also I take a good D3 supplement and Cod liver oil and digestive enzymes with my meals. All of which has got me to the best place I've been health wise for a few years.
Lots of spinach, Kale, Green beans.. Extra virgin olive oil with food. No hard to digest foods like pork.. Just keep it as close to natural as possible.
In fact, if you haven't tried before, have a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil 1st thing in the morning and do it for a week and you'll see how it coats your intestines and stools so they don't cause irritation as they travel through.

Hi MrPenguin. I am currently having bowel problems myself & feel like I'm "fighting" with my gastro consultant yet again to get to the root of current problems. I am asking to do investigations on my small bowel as it has never been looked at entirely since my problems began in 2012. Could I ask you, what symptoms you have, & how did they diagnose problems in your small intestines - the inflammation & narrowing? what tests have you had? Any info greatly appreciated.

Well, Turmeric is an old Indian spice with a powerful medicinal compound called Curcumin. Only about 3% of Turmeric is Curcumin so if you're wanting medicinal properties buying a supplement is the only way to obtain enough of it. For example.. Just taking one is the equivalent to several currries. Do a search for "10 Proven Health Benefits of Turmeric and Curcumin" and you'll see lots about it.

High with what? Bilirubin? Mine goes up higher all the time and it doesn't matter.. It's from Gilbert's syndrome which a LOT of people have and don't even know because it doesn't cause them any issues. Like.. Only when I found out did my parents discovered they had it too and they are mid 60s. So it's not something which is usually picked up on.
Gilbert’s syndrome is a genetic disorder that's hereditary (it runs in families). People with the syndrome have a faulty gene which causes the liver to have problems removing bilirubin from the blood.

Hi Eriikah, I'm sorry you are flaring again, this is a miserable condition. I have colitis & am currently flaring, although this is under question at present as despite a positive stool test (calprotectin) for inflammation my recent colonoscopy was within normal limits, so I'm trying to get my tunnel visioned consultant to do some small bowel tests. I would suggest strongly you see your doctor or gastroenterologist & get a colonoscopy done asap to see what your current flare looks like. Do you take any regular meds to control colitis/prevent flares? You may need some oral steroids such as prednisolone for a few weeks to calm the flare, then continue on maintenance med for colitis (usual practise). I do not find food affects my colitis, but heightened periods of stress do. I have some other bowel conditions too - bile acid malabsorption(take meds for), fructose malabsorption(no fruit in diet), & ibs-d (controlled by diet). so i have to eat a low residue diet anyway because of my other conditions which means everything white, no fibre, no fruit, hardly any veg as i can't digest it. Hope this helps, & you get your flare under control soon hun. xx
