Does anyone ever get random flashbacks of things that happened in the past or  something somebody said or did it along time ago reappears in your memory suddenly.?

not necessarily déjà vu's. But more of a memory comes out of nowhere.

my neurologist said I have an over anxious brain and I'm thinking that maybe the rapid firing of anxiety could cause these memories to pop up.

Hi Jan, I think your neurologist is right, I think it's our brains way of trying to contextualise our anxieties  and give it a reason or meaning. I also think it's something we probably all do as part of our memory recall reaction but when we have anxiety it becomes more prominent and we notice it more.

Its not something to worry about just symptomatic of our anxiety.

Thank you Neil.  I appreciate your response very much. It was just a little concerned because someone on here mentioned that déjà vu's common with early dementia, although  mine isn't really a déjà vu. My mom passed away with dementia this last February so I'm always concerned about that. Have had  anxiety since kindergarten although I had a great life at home with my parents. I just feel like some people have a predisposition to anxiety unfortunately.

Hi Jan your very welcome, deja vu is done thing we all experience and is really weird when we experience it and is completely different sensation to flash backs which again is a normal thing to happen to us when one or more of our senses is triggered.

Im pre disposed to anxiety and depression as I'm a bit of a worrier but it was an experience in my mid twenties that triggered my breakdowns which I've had 6 since then, I'm now in my early fifties, this last one being by far the worst but I'm on the mend again.

Anyhow Jan, don't worry your not suffering from early dementia it's just anxiety doing what it's good at!

      Peace be with you Jan.

Yes I get flashbacks all the time, itll especially be things that have scared me like panick attacks, dreams just things like that. When I get flashbacks I literally zone out

Stacey.baby - those kind of flashbacks could be due to post traumatic stress. My therapist told me that people who have post traumatic stress disorder suffer from flashbacks of the event that was very distressing and they can be random and even when you don't think about that situation that very moment. Your subconscious works "in the background" trying to process this strong emotion you experienced and sometimes it comes out to the "surface".

You poor thing sad I would strongly recommend you to speak to counsellar about it, few sessions can make a world of a difference! You will see things frim different perspective and not attach to those feelings as much. I am going regularly to counselling and so far I dealt with my divorce and guilt of leaving my ex who was abusing me for 11 years, yet I felt guilty fir leaving him! By now all I think of this was that he was an a**ole and I couldn't do better thing fir myself than leaving him!!! Zero guilts left, it turned my world upside down and feeling like million times better smile

At the moment I am also dealing with some traumas from childchood time and miscarriage from April this year. It's amazing how looking at things from perspective can help!
