Flu Vacciination

I believe I have had severe reactions to Avelox and Levaquin. I have had a bad reaction to the pneumonia vaccine (arm swollen, red, throbbing). and I also got the shingles from the shingles vaccine. I have always gotten the flu vaccine but I am now hesitant to get one this year. Any advice?

Hi Sandra: I don't know anything about you, like your age, health status, etc. but I do not get flu shots; I am 70 and have never had a flu shot: I remember in the 1970's flu shots were associated with the development of
Guillan Barre- a neurological disorder and I thought, well, I am never getting a flu shot. I am not suggesting you should not get a flu shot, that is your decision and you certainly could discuss that with your physician.

I am 70 years old and have always gotten the flu shot, but have had tendonitis and other issues I believe from taking Avelox and Levaquin. I have a compromised immune system too. I am afraid with these health issues the flu shot might make the tendonitis flare up again. Thanks for your sharing your story with me.

Hi Sandra,
Since you have suffered from the effects of fluoroquinolones, plus your reactions to other vaccines, already I fully understand your reluctance to risk any more problems. I think no one can really tell you what to do but I know of 'floxies' who do have the flu vaccine every year as they can't risk a bout of flu! I believe the vaccine changes every year anyway so you can't rely on past experiences of it.
Have you checked out Floxie Hope? I'm willing to bet that someone has asked this question on the forum or it has been discussed in one of Lisa's articles.
Sorry not to be of more help,
Good luck (I've had my flu shot and lost my voice for a few days but that might not have been anything to do with it!).
