    HI FOLKS ,

As i promised a few weeks ago that I would get back to you about this terrible drug well here Iam.

Went off abroad on holiday thinking things would only get better but I ended up at a pharmacy on holiday she also diagnosed oropharyngeal thrush caused by the anti biotic flagyl and she gave me FLUCONAZOLE I faithfully took them but as it got closer to my flight home I dont know to this day how I managed,

On the Monday morning I asked for app to see G.P. got one on the Tuesday and she told me to stop using. By the following week had to return to another G.P. who gave second dose of them and I like an idiot took them. The following Friday we were getting ready to go away with grandson for a week and and I had terrible pains in my head with severe palpatations. Husband contacted 111 they refered me to local hospital by now a person who has never ever had high blood pressure it was reading at over 191 with an irregular pulse of 130! I was just on the verge of being sent to another hospital when it all corrected itself during that waiting time doctor looked up that FLUCONAZOLE and said stop taking them as this is the likely cause and she would not let me fly.

Went to new doctor in the practice now within a week I have had various tests done

1]E.N.T consultant scope down he found thrush and I have to have a barium swallow done this week says Flagyl given twice so close together caused thrush which is common and that along with me being allergic to Fluconazole was a very bad experience so I have never to have again.

2]sent as emergency for endoscopy last week findings polyps with lots of inflammation +thrush caused by anti biotic but the way I have been has been put down yet again by different person reaction to Fluconazole and Ive not to be given any of the zole drugs ever again.Blood pressure returned to normal but g.p. is sending me for a cardio tracer next week as she just wants to be certain.

There is a motto here instead of going with what your told by a doctor check with the chemist to see if there are any adverse reactions to what you are taking because there are lots of over the conter medications and prescription drugs that interfere with each other.

I for one now know I have paid the price for taking 2 of the most terrible prescription drugs and here I am 5months done the line having numerous tests and still feel most unwell.

However there is I am sure a place for them but why not try something more simple before using such drugs?

      HI AMANDA,

JUST GOT YOUR E-MAIL AND SO SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR

      PROBLEMS.

NO MATTER WHAT ANY ONE SAYS THIS DRUG HAS CAUSED ME ENDLESS PROBLEMS AND ALSO MANY OTHERS AND I AM STILL NOT BACK TO MY USUAL SELF WHAT DOES MAKE ME ANGRY IS THE FACT THAT NONE OF THE MEDICAL PEOPLE COME OUT DIRECTLY AND SAY YES THIS IS THE PROBLEM ITS ALMOST AS IF THEY KNOW AND ARE KEEPING IT UNDER THEIR BELT.

      RIGHT DOWN TO BUSINESS.

DENTAL PEOPLE SAID WITHOUT ANY DOUBT IT WAS THRUSH CHEMIST IN CYPRUS SAID IT WAS THRUSH AND SHE SOLD ME FLUCONAZOLE THINKING THAT WOULD END THE PROBLEM HOWEVER IT MADE ME WORSE BUT I HAD ALREADY HAD WITHIN A SHORT SPACE OF TIME THE MOST AWFUL ANTIBIOTIC CALLED FLAGYL AND IT WAS THIS THAT CAUSED THRUSH [MOST DO] SO I THOUGHT AT SOME STAGE THIS WOULD ALL SETTLE DOWN.

IT WAS A NEW G.P SAID SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT SENT ME FOR AN ENDOSCOPY WHICH FOUND INFLAMMATION WITH STOMACH POLYPS. NOW I MUST SAY FOR MANY YEARS I WAS TAKING OMEPRAZOLE FOR HYPERACIDITY 20 MGS AND DOCTOR WAS CONCERNED THAT ALTHOUGH I HAD THE THRUSH SHE WAS MORE INTERESTED IN THE FACT THAT I COULDNT SWALLOW PROPERLY. I WAS THEN SENT FOR BARIUM SWALLOW AND A FINE NEEDLE BIOPSY WHICH THEN IN TURN FOUND ENLARGED THYROID WITH NODULES THIS HOWEVER HAS NO CONNECTION TO THE THRUSH IT WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT THEY FOUND BY CHANCE! THEN LAST WEEK I HAD A C.T. SCAN BECAUSE THE NODULES SHOULD NOT PREVENT ME FROM SWALLOWING.

ALL THAT BY THE WAYSIDE I KNOW FROM THE MINUTE I HAD THE FLAGYL X2 THAT THE THRUSH WAS CAUSED BY THAT AND MY STOMACH HAS NEVER BEEN RIGHT NOW FOR ALMOST 8 MONTHS.

DURING THE SCAN I SUFFERED A SEVERE REACTION TO THE CONTRAST DYE AND THE DAY AFTER I HAD MY FLU JAB AGAIN ANOTHER REACTION SO I SUPPOSE THIS IS DUE TO THE IMMUNE SYSTEM NOT WORKING RIGHT.

I DECIDED TO HAVE A CHAT WITH ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE PEOPLE AND THEY ADVISED PRE&PRO BIOTICS THE FIRST LOT WERE £20 FROM THEM BUT IVE FOUND SEVEN SEAS PROBIOTIC £6 ARE VERY GOOD AND THE THRUSH HAS GONE BUT IT IS THAT THAT CAUSED THE DAMAGE WITHOUT ANY DOUBT SO BE CAREFULL NOT TO USE POWERFUL ANTIBIOTICS.

THERE ARE LOTS OF PRODUCTS LIKE YOGURT WHICH I DONT LIKE BUT THESE TABLETS CONTAIN ALL THE MISSING NUTRIENTS FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME WHO ARE DEFICIENT THEY LAST A MONTH BUT ITS BEST TO CONTINUE WITH THEM.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD NO MORE AZOLE DRUGS AND THATS FROM TOP DOCTORS MY OWN G.P SAID THERE IS A DRUG ON PRESCRIPTION CALLLED NYSTAN GIVEN IN A DROPPER OR ONE THAT YOU CAN SUCK THIS IS AN OLD ONE BUT ITS VERY GOOD SO ITS WORTH A TRY.

      SEE YOUR G.P AND SOON

      TAKE CARE

      REGARDS BETH

      Hi Beth

Sorry to hear your problems. Sounds awful. I've had similar with strong antibiotics for h-pilora.  This was a long time ago but I had to take probiotics and Omeprazole for some time. I have dosed myself off Omeprazole over the years ;was about 5 yrs ago) and now don't heed them. I've been told not Gest to become reliant. I know if I reach the stage of needing them.

That aside. I didn't have as big a reaction as you to azoles but I still end up in A&E. It's very rare I get it but I am allergic to perfumes down there so it can happen. I've trailed the Internet and forums and found its common but no one ever says what you can do instead and I don't think it's clearly labelled. seen my gp and he just keeps giving me a different azole and I still react on a touch test. My biggest frustration has been trying to find an alternative. You are the only post I've seen on the topic of what to do so thank you very much for the advice. Frustrating something so easy to cure with one tablet and can't take it. Allergies are awful. I've had two anaphylactic shock incidents. It needs to be taken more seriously. My doctor has been hopeless. I'm currently trying balance active BV. See how that goes. Thanks again. Amanda
