Fluid on my cervix

Posted , 7 users are following.

My name is Michelle 54 in menopause. Just saw my gynecologist and he read a report from a transvaginal ultrasound showing fluid in my cervix. He said because I'm in menopause my cervix is too small to get in to get the fluid. My gynecologist says he wants to do a procedure in an out-patient surgery center to diolate my cervix and drain the fluid. I'm terrified 😱 Has anyone experienced my situation? I need advice, support, information on my situation suggestions. Thank you. Michelle

Michelle, when he says "fluid" is he talking blood?  Or does he know?

Is this causing you any problems?  And what was the reason for the ultrasound to begin with?

The gynecologist feels it's probably water in my cervix. No blood. Pap test was good. The reason for the transvaginal ultrasound which was ordered by a different doctor was for a different complaint. I had pain in my genital's and the doctor wanted to rule out any large cysts or anything suspicious. The report showed some small calcified cysts which is normal. That gynecologist never said anything about fluid on my cervix. I went to ER for genital pain and if it was a concern with another transvaginal ultrasound test showing again fluid in the cervix the ER didn't do or say anything about it. Some doctors like to do out patient procedures to get money from insurance especially when using a anesthesiologist. I don't have any pain and don't no why I should do the test since it's not life threatening he just wants to make sure there's nothing wrong with the fluid. Any more thoughts? Thank you for responding

    Hi Michelle,

I would get a 2nd opinion. Ask him why it needs to be done.

OH boy, from what I just read, this is rarely harmful.

if Pap smear is normal, I'd be hesitant too. We are just objects to surgeons. They do their thing to stay on the safe side. I personally wonder if it creates more problems.

Doctor  also told me the sonohystogram and biopsy would be no worse than a Pap smear...lies.

My Pap test was normal. My transvaginal ultrasound showed small cysts and fluid in the cervix. That's when the gynecologist said to make sure everything is ok he wants me to have my cervix diolated so he can look inside at the fluid. He wants this done at an out-patient medical center under anesthesia. I'm not a gynecologist but my first gynecologist said nothing is wrong having fluid in the cervix but the second one wants me to have the procedure. I'm scared and confused. Is it normal to have fluid in the cervix? I don't want to have that invasive test.

I don't blame you. I read that fluid-filled cysts are usually harmless.

i had a sonohystogram so they could look inside my uterus but I was awake. They can dialate the cervix without putting you under. The test itself is invasive but only if takes 10 minutes. What happened to your first gyn? His/her opinion sounds valid.

Someone actually told you a biopsy would be no worse than a pap???

Lotti, that was me.  I had a uterine biopsy done in March 2016.  It was in the  office procedure.  I was told to take an ibuprophen before I came in.  It only took maybe 5 minutes.  Slightly uncomfortable, but nothing horrible.  I was told I could expect some spotting or bleeding afterwards, which never happened either.  While my experience with a uterine biopsy may be different than some, I know I worried myself sick over something that wasn't that bad.  I have had pap smears that hurt worse than this, with spotting afterwards.   So I hate to see all women go in terrified and thinking the worst.

I've had cervical and uterine biopsies done since i was in my early 20's and I am so thankful not to have to have them anymore. For me they were horrible.

My gyn told me the sonohystogram and the biopsy would be no worse that a PAP. Can you believe it. He has no clue!

You are very lucky. I thought it was awful. I hate to see anyone worried, but I was so shocked.

I agree. Not to scare anyone--we all have to go through it. I was glad I read about it first, as I took the day off work and planned on taking the day after off. Luckily, I felt okay to return to work the next day.
