Fluid retention?

I was just wondering if anyone had alot of fluid retention when this started? Within a few days I was retaining about 10 pounds of fluid when this started. I had swelling in my ankles, feet, knees, wrists, and hands. At the time I was stiff and sore in all those joints, but felt that my hip, shoulder, and neck joints were good. I could not make a fist. It was really hard to move. After blood work, I was told that my aldolase, ESR, and C-reactive protein were all elevated. Its been about 5 months since this all started and I can notice what feels like a pinched nerve in my left neck/shoulder area. Thighs feel a bit fatigued, but no pain anywhere. I am currently on 9 mg of prednisone a day. I was 43 at time of onset and am now 44 years old. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar onset.

Water retention is a common side effect of Prednisolone. (Read the leaflet supplied with the steroids - don't frighten yourself - not everything happens - just some of it).

I gained, like you about 10lbs of water (apart from the other weight gain).

My GP prescribed water tablets and they do help to get rid of it to a mangeable level.

After about 6 months the water retention settled down and I lost that weight.

But I still take the water tablets once in a while as it creeps back up.

Thanks Mrs K for replying. I am aware of the side effects from prednisone. I actually had the 10 pound fluid retention before I started on prednisone. Then my GP put me on furosimide (diuretic), but that didn't do anything. It wasn't until I started on the prednisone (from my rhuematologist) that I lost those 10 pounds in a week. I just didn't seem to present like most people do with PMR. Sometimes I think my doctor has the right diagnoses and sometimes I don't think its the best match. That's why I was asking. Thanks.

    Hello Mrs K:

I would e-mail you privately but I can't at this time. I am currently working with the administrator to get registered. I have not been able to register successfully yet.

I did fill out the equisurve listed on the other sight. It will be great when all that data gets analyzed and others can view the findings.

These sights are great because as much as family members and friends love you they just don't really understand what one is going through.

Please can you send me an email to avoid it going into my spam inbox and we get the problem resolved with you.
