Fluoextine weight loss during first week

Posted , 4 users are following.

I've been taking 20mg Fluoextine daily for seven days. During this time I've lost over half a stone. My appetite is suppressed and I'm only managing one full meal a day. I've not been sick, nauseous or suffering diahorrea. I know these are common side effects for the drug so am really worrying about developing these side effects and losing further weight.

4 more pounds off and I'll be an unhealthy low bmi, generally I've been toward the upper end of the scale for healthy bmi.

I also know that when I'm skinnier my mind doesn't work properly, irrationality and intrusive thoughts prevail. I'm quite worried for both my physical and mental health now.

Not seeing the doctor to review my meds until 19th Jan. Do you think I should try to drag the appointment forward?

I think you need to force yourself to eat... even if you know you are not hungry. You know you are supposed to eat. I have been losing weight as well since being on these meds. I push myself to eat because I know I must and that it is unhealthy otherwise. I actually bought some meal replacement shakes as well as sometimes I just want to drink instead. If you are really struggling try a higher calorie food item just to push you up there but really try for a well balanced meal if you can. You are in control of your food just remember that.

In a week its usually only fluid anyway.

Try having liquids - soup or buy Complan or any fortified liquid meal (often for sick or the elderly).  You can get them in chemists.  That'll help with nutrition until your appetite comes back.

Taking these meds isn't straightforward as taking other meds.  It will take time.  There will be side effects.  You will feel worse before you feel better.  Don't expect quick results, it can take a few months ... but its worth it.
