hey guys, ive been taking fluoxetine for about a week and a half now for my depression due to work, i have experienced side effects such as loss of appetite & tiredness/yawning all through the day, as a work a 10hr shifts 6 days a week i come home feeling exhausted so not really in the mood for exercise, But i have noticed that they are effecting my sleep quite badly, if i go to bed say at 10pm, i will stuggle to get to sleep much before 12 and then i wake up about 6. or if i do manage to sleep i will wake up about 2/3am and nopt be able to sleep then for the rest of the night.
has anyone else experienced this as it is really effecting my work and my relationship.
thanks

Yes, this is quite normal in the early stages. Having been on 'flu' for over 5 years i can really feel for you.
What time of day do you take your tablet? 1st thing is best early on. The drug will take a little while for your system to get used to. Do work know?
I only ask as unfortunately i had my breakdown at work and they were very understanding and i went on reduced hours until i could cope.
Such long days and coping with an invisible illness must be very hard.
Some things i tried that had varying amounts of success were herb teas with either chamomile or valerian in ....or both. A sleeptherapy mist spray for your sheets or just in the room (available from Avon) and as a last resort Diazepam from the doc which will give you 5 straight hours of sleep but can be addictive if taken all the time. Also Lavender is meant to be a good relaxer.
Best wishes.

Megan: yes, work know, but because of my job role, they are sympathetic, as i do have to deal with complains/ Screamers on a daily basis, but they just said they will help with paperwork, Nothing else, they wont allow me to have reduced hours as they will not pay for it, and also cannot take any time off for sick as they do not pay sick pay for up to 3 weeks (which i really cant afford this close to christmas) ive been looking applying for something else for the last 6 months, but no replies.
Kearn: I was going to the gym alot prior to this, but just didnt really feel like going anywhere, and if i did want to go somewhere i couldnt be on my own. i finally picked up the courage to go the the gym last night and really enjoyed it, but was contantly tire the whole time i was there.

Good for you for making it to the gym. Maybe more gentle exercise at this stage would be more beneficial. A simple walk in your lunch hour - fresh air really helps. I used to walk round a local park in mine. As Kearn said b-vitamins help too especially B12. Holland and Barrett used to sell a B12 supplement. I know take a yeast product high in Vitamin B12 and Zinc on recommendation from my chiropractor as well as a Tesco own brand B-Active supplement.
This B vitamin is a great boost to us sufferers. Pity you cannot reduce your hours or take sick leave but helpful that work show some understanding.
Keep posting and best wishes.
