Fluoxetine upping dossage

Hi I've had anxiety for as long as I can remember. Been on a few drugs waiting to start CBT

Was on sertraline for 8 weeks

Now been on fluoxetine 20 mg for 5 weeks

I want to up to 40 but GP said that was for depression only. So he will get me a psychiatrist instead of meds if I go back to him. Should I ask for

Second opinion. Can I take 40 mg

Thanks so much in advance

Getting a psychiatrist would be good, they are exoerts in this field and can prescribe drugs your GP can't.

As far as I'm aware, fluoxetine can be taken at 40mg, but not aware of the circumstances to do so

      'Hi thanks for reply

I would love psych however they did say I had to try CBT first. Have to wait 6 weeks for that.

I have received the CBT booklet just waiting now for 6 weeks. My only problem I'll be a week into an 8 week trip offshore by that stage.

It's really effected my from age of 18 so nearly 7 years. Can think back through all of my memorable life times of anxiety more than normal levels. Only just figured out it was anxiety about 6 months ago. Just though I had a strange miserable life.

I've been on meds 3 to 4 months.

But from the age of 16 took supplements exercised and googled googled googled non stop. Just because year by year I was loosing my confidence. I have felt no positive effects from meds. All it has done is inhibited me even more as I can not socialise with alcohol at work.

I've taken steroids and been addicted to the gym to try and build my appearance and feel good about myself. I just began to feel I would never be big enough.

I could sit and watch TV on my own and I'll feel down and my heart is racing. Earlier today I was repairing an old laptop and my heart was racing and had terrible anxiety because I guess I though I would fail. Knowing fine it didn't matter.

How long have you been on meds for ?

Sounds like me, tried to overcompensate for the anxiety by trying to look like a man's man.

Been on for few years, but wouldn't say any the ones i have tried have down too much for the anx.

Get what you mean about missing out because not drinking. I was on a Christmas night out coupleweeks ago, got blitzed and been on a downer since. Alochol is an easy crutch, it does take the anxiety away, but make it way worse the next day.

You got anxiety and depression or just anxiety?

I'm the same so only thing that has changed now is I can't drink or I will be very very down the next day and slowly taper off for a week. I started off very confident. Even though I had anxiety. I sort of used the anxiety to my advantage adrenaline just kept me hyper and could never keep on one topic and jumping onto the next. As I got old I became more conscious of it and slowly started to feel people hated me and slowly back right out of social situations.

I've did CBT, it helps by explaining the anxiety, but didn't actually help in grand scheme of things.

I do over compensate also acting confident, but inside churning.

Any reason for it with you?

Mine seems genetic as my mum and her family have all had issues also

Yeah I seem confident too. But hate every minute of interacting with people.

Genetic as well I think my mum and dads side both have "metal" issues.

I think I can detect anxiety from my older brother and father both who are confident people. Ik guessing it's mostly an act for us all

It's a terrible thing to suffer from.

Do you have it all the time,or does itcome and go?

    • Posted

I suffer from it I'd say 90 to 95 percent of the day. Maybe about 40 percent of the day is quite bad where I get all the hard physical systems.but the 90 percent is just the lingering anxiety where I don't feel terrible bug I'm not enjoying my day/life all that much.

All this being said I don't want to die

Don't want die, but don't want live like this for rest of my days either

You heard of 5-HTP? I'm researching this just now. Can't believe the reviews it has

Heard it in passing, but no real knowledge, what is it?

Seems like people find it to work just like proscribed meds. Can have serious sides that come on fast and last for a while. Most people take the dosage slowly and gt on great with it.

      That could be next.
