Fluoxetine Withdrawal

Hi all, I took 20mg Fluoxetine for 5 weeks but had to come off it due to my liver count being abnormal... I didn't particularly mind as I felt horrendous most of the time on it anyway. I had to stop the medication abruptly due to my health issues. I have now done 3 clear weeks. The anxiousness has been teetering a little and I was prescribed beta blockers to help with this. I have managed to only take a handful of beta's over the last 3 weeks, but last night and on and off today my anxiousness was quite bad. Once I took a beta this helped dramatically...but it came on this aft and I took another beta... I am allowed to do this by the way...... Someone has said that the flu has to come out of your system the same way that it went in and I remember feeling quite bad on my 3/4 week of taking it. Anyone else experienced any slight side effects after coming off Flu after only just a few weeks?... It just took me aback a little today as I hadn't felt like this apart from when I was on the flu. Ive also read that Flu is slow releasing and again can take time to leave your body even after only being on it for a few weeks. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. x

    Hello Julie,

The amount of Norfluoxetine in your body halves every 8 days or so in the average person. It's the longest out of all the ADs. Are you going on to a different med? I wouldn't want to quit Prozac myself unless going on to another AD.

Hi Dom... I can’t go onto another as I have found out I’ve got auto immune hepatitis and my liver count is up... but I’ve been doing fab in all over the last 3 weeks.. just today has been very much like my 3/4 week on flu... I know it’s still in my system cos I was having brain zaps night before last so I’m wondering if my body is now Re adjusting again? X

Oh I remember the zaps. Yes, for sure it is adjusting. I hope it passes for you soon. I guess so long as you got the betas you'll be fine. I am on week 8 re-starting and 2 weeks into upping and have the anxiety. It sucks.

Years and years Julie. I think I might have a while to wait yet. The doc gave me diazepam before and during starting Prozac. Now wondering if the anxiety is withdrawal from that. We'll get there wink x

Yeh I thought you had been on it a while... I never could imagine how bad anxiety felt til I got it! I’m 58 and it’s the first time in my life that I’ve experienced it 😱... once my consultant has sorted out my liver and my auto immune I’m going to see a hormone specialist as a few ladies have said that they started with anxiety when they went thro the change... right laugh 🙄 x

PS I had huge side effects 6 months after quitting Prozac the first time, but everyone is different. So I am back on it.
