Fluoxetine Withdrawals?

Hi, I was on 20mg of Flu for 4 weeks before stopping cold turkey due to increased Anxiety, Nausea, weight loss & insomina. My doctor put me on Mirtzapine 15mg which has helped with Sleep & loss of appetite. I was feeling good until 2 weeks after stopping the Flu, I had increased Anxiety again & Nausea, could it be Flu withdrawls even after 2 weeks of stopping & only being on a low dose for 1 month. Don't think it's the Mirt side effects as that is meant to work against Nausea. Thanks

I have heard there can be withdrawl issues even after just taking it for a month...... cold turkey is never a good idea, especially with SSRI drugs, although, the half life of Flu is like 15 days, so its the longest lasting one there is. Maybe ask for an anti nausea drug for a while until the new drug takes hold....... and take care of yourself as best you can...❤

Thanks for your kind words, Doctor said it should be safe to stop after only 1 month so I did. I wanted too as well as couldn't feel any worse than when I was on Flu. I had a week off any antidepressants before he started me on Mirt 15mg which I've been on now for 2 weeks (3 weeks off Flu) which has been wonderful so far for appetite & sleep, hoping it improves my Nausea soon + my anxiety & depression.

you should be in the clear, but glad you are doing a little better. Seems nobody who prescribes these medications has ever taken them or had to come off of them..... thats been my issue with meds from the beginning..... they help, but what if you cannot afford your prescription any more, or you have to come off for another reason..... we need more literature on these things to help patients.

The last 5 days I have come down with Flu/Cold like symptoms which include Muscle Aches, chills, hot flushes, fatigue, runny nose, stomach upset etc. could it be Fluoxetine withdrawals after 1 month off or could it be a separate virus I've picked up? Note I was only on 20mg of Flu for 4 weeks before stopping a month ago cold turkey. I have also been 15mg of Mirt for nearly 4 weeks.

Anyone? Can you still get Flu withdrawl symptoms 5 weeks after stopping 20mg after only taking it for 4 weeks? Thanks

Hi Steph, I am fine now, I did have flu like symptoms 4 weeks after stopping the Fluox but it wasn't too bad & only lasted a few days, hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jordan...it has been 4 wks since i decreased my fluox and I'm still feeling flu-like symptoms on and off! It took 5 weeks for you to feel yourself? I read decreasing meds after being on them fir over 6 wks can cause discontinuation syndrome. Hoping it will go away soon! Thank you!

Hi Steph, I quit Flu after 4 weeks on 20mg cold turkey as I couldn't eat or sleep, my sleep improved after a few days off but nausea lasted around a week. About a month after I quit Flu I had Flu like symptoms for around 5 days but not sure if that was a bug or delayed withdrawals from the Flu as it takes a long time to leave your body. Hope you feel better soon, take care!!

wow, I am also in a month after decreasing and have the same symptoms!

sorry to bother you with this again but i am trying to figure out if i have some strain of the flu or if i am going through what you did. I know you said you were not sure if it was a bug. Would you mind telling me what your symptoms were? The past 3 days my stomach has been torn up! I am in and out the bathroom constantly. Sorry for being graphic I just I’m trying to figure this out and praying it will go away soon! thank you!

Hi Steph, how long were you on the 20mg of Flu before dropping to 10? You should be feeling better by now if you weren't on it that long otherwise it could be something else like a bug or your body is just not liking Flu at all at any dose?

My symptoms were body aches & pains, chills, diarrhoea, nausea & loss of appetite, it lasted around 5 days or so & that occurred around 4 weeks after quitting the Flu 20mg cold turkey after one month on. My doctor thought it was a virus but it could have also been delayed Flu withdrawals too. I don't think I'll ever really know?

Thank you so much for replying, Jordan. I was on 10 mg for one year without any side effects and then I increased to 20 mg for eight weeks. Then I dropped down to 10. It has been four weeks and I have the same symptoms you did… It does feel like a virus but I just think it’s interesting that the timing was so similar to yours.
