My personal experience is... I tried it for 5 days and it has made me a complete wreck. it has increased my anxiety massively, and I am struggling to manage it. I will never ever try it again.
having said that, I have 2 cousins and an aunt who take it, and they think it is brilliant.
Everyone reacts differently, and you won't know until you try.
Good Luck x

i suffered from anxiety and depression. fluoxetine has changed my life! i have been on 20mg for nearly 4 months. i suffered some stomach upset in the first few weeks. my anxiety symptoms disappeared and my sleep improved from day 1. i am enjoying being me again and i now realise just how bad i was! i tried sertraline 2 years ago and one tablet gave me such bad side effects it took me 2 years to get the courage to try an alternative. it really is about finding whats right for you.

Hi,
i've been on Paxil, Sertraline, Mirtazipine, Citalopram and now Prozac.
i should never have stopped paxil.
2 weeks Mirt was awful, zombie, tired couldnt do a thing, always hungry. did stop anxiety quickly thou.
Sertraline terrified me after 3 days, out of body feeling for a long time, panic was intense. so stopped. never again do i want to feel like that.
Citalopram side effects were terrible. went on that twice. 2 months of constant side effects. switched to Prozac by doc.
Prozac so far so good. day 7 only at 20mg. no real side effects, not like that horrible citalopram.

hi Emily,
i had been at the same situation where you are now about 6 weeks ago. I am diagnosed with a reccurent episode of depression being unable to concentrate and fullfill my job.
previosly I was on escitalopram however I never really had the feeling that it is working. So thos time my doctor prescribed me fluoxetin. So far I had minor side effects like headaches and a litle bit of nausea. In comparison to mirtazapin it is really tollerable. From all my research I did in the forums fluoxetin seems to be a very good medication with relatively few side effects. If it works people are really happy with it and most of the bad effects disappear after a couple of weeks.
So I would give it a try and if it is really bad talk to your doctor and check with him for alternatives.
get well soon and give yourself time.
I know it can be super hard.
greetings
Andreas
