Hi! I'm due to have a LTHR on 19th oct but had booked to take kids to Poznan, Poland for a few days over half term on 2nd Nov. Will I be able to fly? I have a hired wheelchair so getting about should be ok. TED stockings, post op anti- coag medication will be taken for 2 weeks post surgery so I'm just windering if anyone has experience of air travel 2 weeks post op?

thanks cheesygrin

Hi grainne I think you need to be really careful and take it slow. I was driving and went back to work at 2 weeks. I was tired and sore but I made it. Crutches AND walker for Safety and support. Pain meds. Sitting in a wheelchair may not be very comfortable with a new hip. Your doctor may not want you to fly, risk of blood clot. Good luck I hope you get to go.

Absolutely not!  Sorry honey. I had a lovely holiday flew 4 hours, but at 14 weeks post op. Still had to be carefull, stood up a lot and walked up and down the plane. Also was given go ahead by Surgeon and had hip precautions removed at 6 weeks. You are right. Short term pain for long term gain. Also I am 51 and was quite fit. For the first two weeks and more I felt like I had been hit by a truck!  You also get weird brain fog. Just getting from chair to bed to toilet is enough!

Dont panic, I had mine done three months ago and am back at work as a community Occupational Therapist. So glad I had the surgery, walking 4 miles up and down hills. You will be great and have lots of action packed holidays, just not now!!

Ps. My surgeon said I can Ski again. Won't risk it this Christmas but next year I will be back on the slopes!

    Take care. X
