To what extent has the fodmap helped with ibsd, I want to start it but I struggle with food so i do not want it to make it worse, especially any product with rice.

The fodmap diet has helped me a huge amount, although I had ibs-c, but I've heard from people with ibs-d it also helped them aswell. Worth trying out, just google "fodmap food list" and have a look.

The elimination phase of the diet was the most complicated bit, but it was worth persevering.
Well worth giving it a try, although I’d suggest you follow the guidance produced by Monash University. I’ve come across lots of diets claiming to be Low Fodmap which actually contain ingredients that are high in FODMAPS.

Hi. i have ibsd, colitis, & fructose malabsorption, & bile acid malabsorption. i have seen specialist gastro dieticians who initially recommended the fodmap diet to me. it didnt help me at all, as the food lists - about 80-90% of it i cannot tolerate. most veg goes through me undigested (it comes out looking like it went in). i cannot tolerate any fruit anyway, & fibre - i cannot break down at all. in the end, my dietician recommended i stay away from fibre such as porridge, brown bread etc as many people with ibsd have a fast transit & cannot break fibre down properly which exacerbates diarrea. i have had much more success with a simple low residue diet which is basically everything white - bread, rice, pasta, no cereals. i can manage a desert spoon of veg without major problems as i do miss veg. in particular green salad leaves are terrible for my ibsd; i literally see green leaves in the toilet 4 or 5 hours after eating with diarrea. the only salad leaf i can digest is iceberg lettuce. my diet is largely carbs, protein & dairy now without any fibre. hope this helps. x

I find it so frustrating when i see all these healthy eating or cookery suggestions on tv programmes, & i always say to my hubby, what about all the millions of ibsd sufferers that have the same problem as me with veg & fibre? if we eat all those lovely recipes, boy would we be in trouble & attached to the loo more. I'm surprised no tv chef or tv dietician hasnt come up with a programme or book for the millions that want to eat healthier but are very restricted with most veg & fibre. the only thing i try to do is buy foods with less saturated fat & lower calories(but watch out for added sugar on the nutrition labels) x

I know some people say this a boring, restrictive eating plan but in the 2 years I’ve been following it I’ve probably had some of the most varied, nutritionally balanced meals ever. Having said that, I rarely eat out these days because I’m usually limited to things I know are safe ( but boring) like plain fish or chicken. Some entrepreneur should have a go at opening a chain of restaurants that cater for specialist diets - they could make a fortune. I have lots of friends with Coeliac and they struggle to eat out too.

I am just beginning a FODMAP diet.
I found that bread (gluten) and chocolate are terrible triggers (I´m not celiac)
Butter seems to trigger a flare-up of pain often, but not all types of butter. Milk is also variable.
I seem to be fine with yogurt, but I still question if I should discontinued it.
Does anyone here has problems with butter?
I am only IBS-C, but some weeks ago I drank 1L of coconut water and had a bad case of diarrhea for the first time. I wonder if it was caused by it.
The only thing that concerns a bit is that I have constant and very localized upper left pain, immediately under the left ribcage. Do you guys feel the same? (all of my tests were normal)
