FODMAP DIET FOR IBS

Hi guys, I'm 20 years old and have been told I have had ibs since I was 12. I have had various tests and they have always came back clear and normal so back in March I got referred to a dietician whom then told me about the fodmap diet which helps at least 75% of those who have ibs, I done the diet for 2 months having high hopes but shock.. It didn't work for me as I was still having the same horrible symptoms! I am confused as I thought ibs is triggered by certain foods and if they are eliminated from your diet then you should be feeling better?? Has anyone else done this diet? If so what was your experiences with it? And what's the next step of its not worked?

I've just started the FODMAP diet and completely cut out dairy products and I do feel better for it.
I see what you mean about cutting things out and still have the sysmptons, drink plenty of water.

Thats good to hear it is working for you, trust me to be apart of the 25% it doesn't work for haha! I'm back to the hospital tomorrow for a check up about it all so maybe get somewhere with that

Sorry to hear low fodmap doesn't work for you. I am one of the fortunate 75%. My triggers are definitely mushrooms, garlic, onions and moderate to high levels of gluten.
I can only hope that your dietician can offer advice that will relieve your symptoms - every little helps.

My doctor told me today to go back on fodmap diet for 6 months and take mebeverine as well, it never worked before but I'm willing to try again, that's my last hope unfortunately as he said there's nothing else he can do!

Hi. I tried fodmap diet couple of years ago on the advice of my gastro dietician as I have colitis, ibs-d, bile acid malabsorption & fructose malabsorption (walking disaster really). I found useless. the food lists on the fodmap diet sheets my dietican gave me - most of the foods I cannot tolerate. I can't eat fruit anyway because of the fructose problem, most veg I eat comes out undigested, & I can't break down fibre. I now follow a low residue diet which is basically everything white, bread, pasta, rice. no grains, seeds, fibre, oats etc. the only veg I can eat without it coming out looking like it went in is: sauteed mushrooms, iceberg or kos lettuce & bizarelly baked jalapeno poppers (jalapeno with cream cheese inside coated in breadcrumbs)!!! very bizarre!! but thats my lot sadly. Milk actually soothes my stomach & is a lifesaver in the day if i don't feel like eating, i have half a pint of 1%fat milk, so at least its a food albeit in liquid form. Hope this helps.
