hey I am on the same boat i have TYPE 1 on my genitals and recieved it from oral sex. I am so afraid to pass it to someone. my friend has type 2 & shes been having unprotected sex with her bf for 3 years and havent given it to him. i think we pay too much mind to the situation. you have to keep your immune system strong to prevent outbreaks. track what causes them and when you get them. stay away from sex when you have a breakout or symptoms of one. i have recieved oral and have had unprotected sex and i havent passed it so maybe out doctors are right. there is also daily medication for those that get to many outbreaks. look into lysine its somethung i take everyday which attacks herpes

    Hi Miasmomaa

You're right the chances of passing it on are very very low provided you don't have an outbreak at the time.

I've had genital HSV2 for the past three years. during that time I've had regular unprotected sex and not passed it on. I do have to check myself for an outbreak before sex though. There have been occasions when I've had to refuse sex with my girlfriend because I've started with an outbreak.

Your sex life is not over but you do need to get used to checking yourself regularly.

    Good luck

my doctor said the same that it is not contagious while you are not having an outbreak, but from what i read online multiple sources say it can be contagious without symptoms..sooo im not really sure who is correct..

keep your head up! im almost two months into my diagnosis and i have such a better mindset now.

honestly considering your doctor said it, my doctor said it, and then an STI specialist agreed with them as well that it was not contagious unless an outbreak is present makes me wonder if the CDC, medical advisors are just telling us it is contagious more often to help try to keep from spreading it??? lol i know it sounds crazy but im a total conspiracy theroist lol

i hope you are ok mentally.. i think thats the hardest part of this disease the shame the stigma..since i have casually started mentioning herpes i have learned about 10 people i know that our positive for HSV 1 or 2..
