Hello, I am currently on methotrexate and I hate it I have been okln it about 3 to 4 weeks and I get bad stomach pains and nausea really bad, I wake up everyday to a swollen hand, sore jaw, swollen knee, and toes and got are very sore, I called my doc to inform her this medicine is making me feel so sick at work with stomach pain not to mention I don't have a drop of energy I'm just exhausted all the time, so she said she is going to keep me on methotrexate but she is gonna change It to injections instead of pills, does anyone here inject? Is it better in your opinion or will I still experience what I am now?

Thank you

Hi Chris,I had to change to injections because of GI side effects. They bypass the gut so I no longer have problems.Only side effect I get is a sharp pain at injection site but it doesn't last long and skin reaction which takes a few weeks to go.Helps me remember which legs turn it is for stabbing ??

    Hiya,

I had my first injection on Tuesday. Same as you I couldn't handle the sickness.

In all honesty I haven't noticed much of a difference as yet! I perhaps feel slightly less sick?! But maybe it just needs to kick in i don't know! Perhaps there is also some tablets in my system?! I don't know how long they stay in the body!

    Good luck xx

Hi Chris. Sorry to hear you are not getting on with oral methotrexate. Good that you have made contact with your doctor who has listened. My mother has, so far, been OK on oral but I've read lots of posts here that suggest others swapped to injections which helped solve the side effects. I'm sure others will share their stories and best wishes that you can feel well soon.

Hi Chris I switched to injection and my nausea ceased immediately. I also feel that it is more effective because my hair has significantly fallen out so I feel it must be working! My joints pain and swelling has eased as well. So good luck Chris. I say try anything you can that's safe and trusted so that you can get your life back!

You are on once a week I hope. I inject myself on Friday night, in the top front of my left leg, practice makes perfect.

Sometimes get a sting, othertimes no sting.

I notice that if the alcohol rub site is still wet, and if I use the alcohol wipe after the injection, that causes the site to sting, so I wait a few more seconds for the alcohol to dry out then I inject, and afterwards a clean dry tissue for any leakage, or occasionaly a spot of blood.

I keep a big makeup case for all of my medications incl my needle supply and syringe's also my needle keeper for safety reasons, bright yellow disposable which I take back to my chemist when full. and buy a new needle keeper.
