As some people know I was in a quandry whether to go for the replacemen now or later. 47 yr old osteoarthritis caused by wicket keeping and running marathons. Well saw my consultant again and his words were hips is trashed and I wouldne be recommending you for surgery unless you needed it. he lay be on the bed knees up, moved my right knee outwards and oooouuuuuccccchhh. Worse pain I have felt, there and then I decided I needed it done. the x ray is worse than a year ago showing bone spurs now. Pain isnt excrutiating day to day but does ache constantly know. So cut a long story short I m having it done in May.

Hi Boasey, I'm in a similar situation. 50 year old male in the UK, with bone spurs all around my hip joints. I am not in any pain, but as I walk with a limp (for last 3 years) it's put extra pressure on my back and I've ruptured a disc in the lower back. My hip gives me little pain though, more uncomfortable at night when I can't find a good position to lie in. During day I still walk dogs, go skiing every year, but I can't run at all. It seems to be pressure on a wide apart leg that hurts, but I can still (almost) do the splits with no pain as there is no downwards pressure. Dr says wait until I'm in more pain as the operation is good at getting rid of the pain but not guaranteed I'll get rid of limp.

Good decision. I am a 48 yrs runne rand had a THR on the left 6 weeks ago. Make sure you get ceramic on ceramic; more longlasting. I had minimum invasive method; no cutting through muscle, only 10 cm scare and full weight on

leg day after op. Just ask your surgeon what his method is and what material he uses. Good luck.

Hi boasey. Who says excercise is good for you lol. I was a competitive cyclist and ran many half marathons. I had my right THR last August at 46 and I am two weeks today post op with my left THR. My right hip is fantastic and I can only hope my left one is the same once recovered. Good luck  !!!
