Food always sticks in throat

For about a year now, I've had post nasal drip and it feels like it's sticking to my throat. I am constantly coughing and clearing my throat (it gets worse at night), but what really bothers me is that food will get stuck and it makes me panic and feel like I am choking or that I'm going to choke. No matter how small, oatmeal for example - it always gets stuck to my throat. Because of this, I've resorted to chewing my food longer and more carefully. It also feels like there is a lump in my throat around where the base is and my throat can sometimes feel tight. I'm not sure if this is related or not, but there are nights when I will be almost asleep and then I'll jump up gasping. This will sometimes happen multiple times before I'm finally able to fall asleep. I went to my doctor, who referred me to an ENT and she pretty much just dismissed it and said it was something I'd have to deal with. I don't know - it really worries me, because it just doesn't feel like it's normal for me as I wasn't always like this. Is there anything that can be done or is it really just something I have to deal with?
