I've been told I have MD but they said I tested negative for it but have all the classic symptoms.   I have only had 2 drop attacks in the past 8 months or so.   I'm lucky so far but do have fullness in my left ear and have some hearing lose.  I don't salt my food anymore but admit I don't watch what I eat at fast food restaurants.  There are times I feel like you and a little weird after eating fast foods.  I wonder if there was a high salt content in what I ate.  I don't have MD so bad that I watch those like I should.  I talked to a hearing aid consultant this past week and he claims that he had a couple of patients who had MD and they also had allergies.  They went doctor for the allergies and got those taken care of and said their MD went away.   I do have allergies and thinking about going to see a specialist and see if that would help my MD.  So, it sounds like what we eat could effect our MD from time to time.  Hope you getting to feeling better Bluesmann!

It has become very clear to me, that in my case, food plays a very important role in my Meniere’s attacks. After tracking all my triggers for a couple years certain foods can cause an attack, sometimes very soon after finishing a meal. My food triggers are, salt, sugar, gluten, msg, caffeine, chocolate, and alcohol.  I stay away from all processed foods and never eat “junk” food. I am on a very strict diet and for me it has helped manage my symptoms. I also drink plenty of water , meditate, and exercise everyday. I still have some dizzy spells but have not had the violent spins for six months. I have had Meniere’s since 2000. It went into a 13 year remission, during that time I did nothing to prevent it. I have other triggers but for this discussion we are talking food. Most times after every meal my tinnitus changes. But, if I eat properly, I do not get vertigo. My goal is to manage my symptoms, mainly reduce the episodes of vertigo.. I have found that all my triggers work together or not. If I get stressed, eat too much salt, don’t sleep well, then I am more likely to have an attack. Sometimes it takes more than one trigger to cause a problem. One trigger, by itself does not seem to cause major problems. Many on this forum have posted similar findings. This is what makes Meniere’s so frustrating. As similar as some of our findings are they are also very different. So we must all find out and do what works for us. Being as scientific about it as you can, may help manage this horrible syndrome.

    Best to you

Very smart thing to do, drinking water to help flush out the excess salt. I find that works for me also. I make sure I drink plenty of water throughout the day. I am glad you are getting relief and you probably won’t eat over salted, processed foods any time soon. Ha.

      Take care

Yes I agree we all have to find and avoid our triggers or the combination of triggers. I have to avoid dairy as this causes blocked sinuses which leads to increased tinnitus. It can be annoying to have to be so vigilant bordering on neurotic. I keep a diary of events and possible causes.

Thanks or the replies everyone.  Feeling much better this morning after a lot of sleep.    How long once you all set of a trigger with someone you've eaten does it linger?   Probably depends on water intake and medication but just curious.  I drank tons of water and didn't eat much rest of yesterday.  Also noticed where the barometric pressure changed where I am .33 over last couple days and they say that messes with it sometimes.

      Thanks everyone

    Bluesman,

I have found, once I set off a trigger or triggers, how long it lasts, depends on my response. I try and stay calm, stay hydrated, do my meditation, and any other methods that may have worked for me in the past. Even if we think we understand our triggers, it does not mean we won’t have an attack, but it sure has helped me cut back on the violent ones. I have found the one trigger,  that seems to exacerbate the others, is a poor nights sleep.  But being aware and vigilant with all your triggers is important. Don’t cheat, lest you are willing to pay the price.

    Do take care
