Foot and Ankle Surgery Recovery Time and Surgical Complications

Posted , 4 users are following.

I am scheduled to have a Medial Calcaneal Ostotomy procedure to correct the effect of having flat feet over many years. I have ongoing foot pain and will have the surgery named above to correct this condition. I would like to hear from people, who have had this surgery and their experiences after the surgery.

I had ankle surgery back in July.

From what I know about your procedure it involves screws being placed inside your foot to realign it.

Im not sure of your recovery time but I do know my recovery has been longer than I originally anticipated

Any surgery poses complications, just follow your post op instructions

I had relatively none to little pain

My surgery was 7/11 I have 7 screws and long screw going through back of my ankle

    I was walking late September

    PT helped in my recovery

Good luck and let us know how you make out

    Hi Snaketrainor

Many years ago my late brother suffered from a 'collapsed bridge' in both his feet rendering them 'flat'. A surgeon then cut four of the Metatarsal bones in each foot thru and he had to walk with the broken bones with plaster soles that elevated the feet into the correct position. Was pretty painful for him in the beginning but when the bones healed at the correct angle, he never had any "flat feet" anymore and no screws and stuff in his feet. My mother also had the same procedure and still going strong at 85.

I am scheduled for arthrodesis (fusion) of my right ankle 20 Nov 2019. Hoping it will be a success...and shi.....scared, to say the least.

Hope all goes well for you too.

    Regards

    Leon

I had a calcaneal osteotomy on 6/26/19 with a gastrocnemius rescession to lengthen a tendon. it's almost 5 months since the surgery and i am still in pain and limping. The surgical incission is extremely sensitive. In fact, I've been using a lotion with lidocaine to relieve it. I had an Aircast boot from Day 1, but was non weight bearing for 4 weeks. For two of those weeks, I had to sleep with the boot. After 4 weeks, i could try walking with the boot as tolerated. After about 6 -7 weeks, I started to work into my regular routine, to include exercise. I even golfed with my boot. I wish my recovery were farther along. I consider the procedure and recovery painful and long. I'm not sure what the norm is. My doctor said if I were 30-40 yrs younger, it would be easy. I'm 70, so I'm hoping you're 30-40 yrs younger. 😃 I have two screws. Please inform how you're doing. Wishing you the best
