I experienced similar symptoms and was diagnosed initially with tendinitis. Further evaluation, including ultrasound and MRI, revealed torn tendons. I had surgery last summer to repair the tears but took a less agrressive route to begin with. First I tried a walking boot for a few months. Next I had an injection into the tendon and had a walking cast for about 6 weeks. I also did physical therapy with both treatments. The definitive treatment was the surgery, but I didn't want to jump right into that. I would recommend an appointment with an orthopedic who specializes in foot care. I had an excellent one and my surgery was very successful. Find out what exactly is going on first and then treat it accordingly. Until you can get in to see someone I would recommend ice, elevation, wrapping the foot and ankle with an ace wrap and resting the foot as much as possible to promote healing. Good luck!
